The treatment of hospital wastewater: an appraisal [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Water and Health, 2006
Hospitals discharge considerable amounts of chemicals and microbial agents in their wastewaters. Problem chemicals present in hospital wastewater belong to different groups, such as antibiotics, X-ray contrast agents, disinfectants and pharmaceuticals. Many of these chemical compounds resist normal wastewater treatment.

The Selection of Efficient Antiscalant for RO Facility, Control of Its Quality and Evaluation of the Economical Efficiency of Its Application

open access: yesMembranes, 2023
Adsorption of polymeric inhibitor molecules to calcium carbonate crystal surface was investigated. Inhibiting efficiencies of phosphonic acid-based antiscalants are dependent on the amount of adsorbed material on the growing crystal surface.

Microalgae and Wastewater Treatment

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 1995
The performance of microalgae aquaculture wastewater treatment system predominated mainly by Scenedesmus and Chlorella was assessed. Treatment induced a progressive reduction in both COD and BOD to values below the discharge limits. Different patterns were obtained for removal of phosphorus, nitrogen, and ammonia; however, the algal culture ...

Hydrothermal Conversion of Red Mud into Magnetic Adsorbent for Effective Adsorption of Zn(II) in Water

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Red mud, a Fe-rich waste generated from the aluminum industry, was recovered as an adsorbent for wastewater treatment. The separation process of red mud from water after adsorption, including centrifugation and filtration, was complicated.

Sawdust for Wastewater Treatment

open access: yesJournal of Bioremediation & Biodegradation, 2014
The scarcity of water is a major problem in many countries. In addition, contaminated water sources will have to be taken into account more and more in the future. This will increase the cost of treatment. The utilization of by-products and waste materials as a raw material for water treatment chemicals has been suggested as a way to reduce costs ...
