The treatment of hospital wastewater: an appraisal [PDF]
Hospitals discharge considerable amounts of chemicals and microbial agents in their wastewaters. Problem chemicals present in hospital wastewater belong to different groups, such as antibiotics, X-ray contrast agents, disinfectants and pharmaceuticals. Many of these chemical compounds resist normal wastewater treatment.

Microalgae and Wastewater Treatment
The performance of microalgae aquaculture wastewater treatment system predominated mainly by Scenedesmus and Chlorella was assessed. Treatment induced a progressive reduction in both COD and BOD to values below the discharge limits. Different patterns were obtained for removal of phosphorus, nitrogen, and ammonia; however, the algal culture ...

Achieving partial denitrification-anammox in biofilter for advanced wastewater treatment
Recently, partial denitrification (PDN) - anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) process has been widely studied in activated sludge for nitrate wastewater treatment. However, achieving PDN-Anammox in biofilter for domestic wastewater treatment was never

Sawdust for Wastewater Treatment
The scarcity of water is a major problem in many countries. In addition, contaminated water sources will have to be taken into account more and more in the future. This will increase the cost of treatment. The utilization of by-products and waste materials as a raw material for water treatment chemicals has been suggested as a way to reduce costs ...

Treatment of wastewater by natural systems
Experimental results from a pilot-scale constructed wetland (CW) treatment plant have been described. The study was conducted at two different systems: continuous and batch. In the continuous system, the treatment yields were monitored in different loading conditions in 1-year period.
