Progress on the Application of Polymers of Intrinsic Microporosity for the Adsorption of Organic Contaminants

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
The pictorial illustration of the applications of polymers of intrinsic microporosity extraordinary porous organic polymers with high surface areas, pore radii, pore volumes, high permeability, high diffusivity, high selectivity, and high thermal stability, as suitable filters or purifiers for water contaminated with pharmaceutical and organic dyes ...

Comparison of colour properties in american walnut (Juglans nigra) wood coated with different surface finishes

open access: yesLes
In this research, the colour characteristics [hue (ho) angle, yellow (b*) colour tone, lightness (L*), red (a*) colour tone, chroma (C*), ∆E*, ∆L*, ∆a*, ∆b*, ∆C*, and ∆H*] of surfaces treated with three distinct types of coatings [solvent-based yacht ...

Determining the Effect of Seasonal Variation in Spruce (Picea orientalis L.) Wood Treated with Various Impregnations on Combustion Resistance

open access: yesBioResources, 2016
Prepared test specimens were surface treated and coated with synthetic and water-based outdoor varnishes after being chemically impregnated. The test specimens were left outdoors to determine the effects of impregnation and treatment on the wood during ...

Impacts of the bleaching and varnishing process on the collapse time in combustion of oriental beech and scots pine woods

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Forestry, 2020
This study aims to determine the effects of the bleaching and varnishing process on the collapse time in combustion of some wood materials. For this purpose, samples prepared from wood of Oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) and Scoth pine (Pinus ...

Exploring marking methods for the predatory hoverfly Sphaerophoria rueppellii (Diptera: Syrphidae)

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
As important pollinators and predators of aphids, hoverflies play an important role in ecosystems. This study focuses on identifying the best marking technique for the model species Sphaerophoria rueppellii that can be used to track hoverfly feeding and oviposition sites, evaluating three methods: rubidium (RbCl), fluorescein, and fluorescent dusts ...

Enhancing the vase life of cut roses through spectral optimisation during greenhouse cultivation

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, EarlyView.
Here, we examined three red‐to‐blue (R:B) light emitting diode (LED) ratios (90:10, 80:20 and 70:30) in two cut rose cultivars. All treatments enhanced photosynthesis, with 90:10 showing the strongest effects—raising chlorophyll, carotenoids, anthocyanins and carbohydrate levels, and extending vase life by up to 30%.

An Overview of the Rock Art of AlUla: Tracing Changes in Content and Form Across 12,000 Years of Human History

open access: yesArabian Archaeology and Epigraphy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Between 2018 and 2021, the Identification and Documentation of Immovable Heritage Assets (IDIHA) Project recorded over 19,000 rock art panels in the AlUla (al‐‘Ulā) region of north‐western Saudi Arabia. This study presents a chronological assessment of the corpus, drawing on superimpositions, datable motifs, inscriptions, and varnish formation,

The impact of stain removal and bleaching on the adhesion strength of water-based varnish layers in oak

open access: yesJournal of Biometry Studies, 2022
The objective of this work was to investigate the effect of heat treatment on swelling, hardness, and surface quality of four wood species, namely black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.), common alder (Alnus glutinosa L.), Western prickly juniper (Juniperus oxycedrus L.) and plum (Prunus domestica L.).
