Detection of pipe strain field induced by water hammer conditions in pipeline system

Water supply : the review journal of the International Water Supply Association
This study investigates the feasibility of using strain response as a diagnostic indicator for detecting transient hydraulic events in pipeline. Circumferential strain was measured on a reducer pipe using both strain gauges and a non-contact method ...

Water hammer simulation by explicit central finite difference methods in staggered grids

2017
Four explicit finite difference schemes, including Lax-Friedrichs, Nessyahu-Tadmor, Lax-Wendroff and Lax-Wendroff with a nonlinear filter are applied to solve water hammer equations. The schemes solve the equations in a reservoir-pipe-valve with an instantaneous and gradual closure of the valve boundary.

Impulse Response Method for Pipeline Systems Equipped with Water Hammer Protection Devices

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2008
Surge protection devices, such as surge tanks and air chambers, have been modeled with the impulse response method for transient analysis of water distribution systems. The lumped inertia model and continuity equation are used to represent nonpipe hydraulic elements.

Numerical modeling of cavity collapse water hammer in pipeline systems: Internal mechanisms and influential factors of transient flow and secondary pressure rise dynamics

The Physics of Fluids
This study explores the dynamics of pressure wave propagation and cavitation in pressurized pipelines during and after the rapid closure of the pipeline's end ball valve, utilizing a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics approach with the method

The influence of pulse frequency on the energy evolution law and rock-breaking effect of pulsed abrasive water jet

The Physics of Fluids
Compared to continuous abrasive jet and high-pressure water jet, pulsed abrasive water jet can intermittently generate high water hammer pressure and is commonly used in applications such as coal mining and petroleum engineering for rock-breaking ...

Comprehensive model for multi-fracture localization based on water hammer signals: Evaluation and field application

The Physics of Fluids
Determining fracture locations in hydraulic fracturing is essential for diagnostic purposes. Water hammer waves generated during pump shut-in in hydraulic fracturing create pressure fluctuations as they pass through fractures.
