WATER‐LUBRICATED BEARINGS FOR MARINE USE

Journal of the American Society for Naval Engineers, 1958
The properties of water as a lubricant are discussed and the problems of practical hydrodynamic lubrication with water are shown to be capable of solution. From this basis, two general marine bearing applications are considered, the first involving large relatively low-speed bearings, and the second smaller high-speed bearings.

Polymeric materials for water-lubricated plain bearings

Russian Journal of Applied Chemistry, 2006
Results of tribological studies of modern polymeric materials (thermoplastics, thermosetting materials, composites) used to fabricate water-lubricated bearings are considered. Particular attention is given to carbon-fiber-reinforced plastics modified with powdered metals, fullerene-containing additives, and carbon nanotubes.

Characteristics and Outline of Water-Lubricated Thordon Bearing

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
Thordon is a new liner material used widely in water-lubricated bearings in virtue of its shockproof characteristic, high load and wear resistance. The category of materials used in water-lubricated bearings was briefly outlined and tribological characteristics of most of the materials were compared in the paper.

Rotor Rolling over a Water-Lubricated Bearing

Thermal Engineering, 2018
The article presents the results of studying the effect of forces associated with secondary damping coefficients (gyroscopic forces) on the development of asynchronous rolling of the rotor over a water-lubricated bearing. The damping forces act against the background of other exciting forces in the rotor–supports system, in particular, the exciting ...

Static Load Performance of a Water-Lubricated Hydrostatic Thrust Bearing

Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, 2017
In rotating equipment, thrust bearings aid to balance axial loads and control shaft position. In turbomachinery, axial loads depend on shaft speed and pressure rise/drop on the impellers. This paper details a water-lubricated test rig for measurement of the performance of hydrostatic thrust bearings (HTBs).

Study on the Friction Characteristic of a Water-Lubricated Hybrid Bearing

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
In this paper, a water-lubricated hybrid with four stepped recess supporting a high-speed spindle system is studied. A two-dimension finite element method considering turbulence effect and the relationship between temperature and viscosity is developed to solve the Reynolds equation to obtain different bearing performance.

Performance of Water-Lubricated Flat Spiral Groove Bearings

Journal of Tribology, 1985
The 8.6 cm diameter spiral groove bearings, solid type and support type, are designed for water-lubricated thrust application. The load-carrying capacity limit is obtained experimentally. The major conclusions are as follows: (1) The load-carrying capacity depends significantly upon the deformations of the bearing and the runner, which are caused by ...
