Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Transpirational response to water availability for winter wheat as affected by soil textures

open access: yes, 2011
Soil texture and evaporative demand have been reported to be the main factors which influence the transpirational response to soil water deficits. However, experimental evidences are not enough.

Combined Spirulina and Sulfate-Reducing Bacteria Enhance Drought Tolerance in Lettuce, with Sulfate-Reducing Bacteria Excelling Under Severe Stress

open access: yesHorticulturae
Drought stress hinders plant growth by reducing water availability, leading to stunted plants growth, lower photosynthesis rates, and decreased yields. This research explored the impact of the combination of Spirulina and sulfate-reducing bacteria on the

Potencial de rendimento da soja durante a ontogenia em razão da irrigação e arranjo de plantas Potential yield of soybean during the ontogeny according to water availability and plant arrangement

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Urban Water Availability and Potential Future Stressors : A Case Study of Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina

open access: yes, 2023
The line that once existed between geographic regions that are considered "water poor" and "water rich" is now being blurred. Water managers in "water rich" regions, such as the Southeastern United States, are starting to realize that their abundant ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.
