WATER BUDGET FOR ABU ZIRIG MARSH IN SOUTHERN IRAQ

open access: yesJournal of Engineering and Sustainable Development, 2018
The marshes of Iraq are located in the southern part of the country with small portion that is located in Iran. They cover an area of about 15000-20000 km2. The marshes consist of hydraulically connected shallow lakes and scattered ponds.

Sampling Strategy: An Overlooked Factor Affecting Artificial Intelligence Prediction Accuracy of Peptides’ Physicochemical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This study reveals that sampling strategy (i.e., sampling size and approach) is a foundational prerequisite for building accurate and generalizable AI models in peptide discovery. Reaching a threshold of 7.5% of the total tetrapeptide sequence space was essential to ensure reliable predictions.

Water Budget for Akita Prefecture

open access: yesAnnals of The Tohoku Geographycal Asocciation, 1977
In this paper the author discussed annual water budget for the whole area of Akita prefecture and for the drainage basins of the biggest three Rivers, the Omono, the Yoneshiro and the Koyoshi in this prefecture. From the standpoint of water-budget method average annual precipitation and average annual potential evapotranspiration are calculated using ...

Physical Reservoir Computing for Smart Manufacturing of PCB Using Crystallinity‐Controlled HfO2 Memristor for Reservoir

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
We address multilayer PCB anomaly detection for smart manufacturing by physical reservoir computing with HfO2‐based memristors. Crystallinity‐tuned HfO2 suppresses ferroelectricity while preserving the high‐k insulating state and confers strong short‐term memory.

Uncovering renewable energy policy impact channels on land values, the local farm structure, and farmland heterogeneity

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Germany's Renewable Energy Sources Act (REA), enacted in 2000 and subsequently amended, subsidized national renewable energy production with fixed feed‐in tariffs for renewable energy sources (RE) from wind, solar, and biogas. Empirical studies suggest that the policy was creating windfall effects for landowners and attribute farmland use ...

Water budgets for natural systems

open access: yesLinnaeus Eco-Tech, 2019
Natural systems including constructed and natural wetlands as well as irrigated land areas, geofilters and ponds are capable of absorbing pollutant loadings, and in appropriatecircumstances can provide a low cost alternative to traditional chemical and biologicaltreatment.

Seeds of change: The impact of Ethiopia's direct seed marketing approach on smallholders' seed purchases and productivity

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract While multiple factors explain low adoption rates of improved varieties by small‐scale farmers in sub‐Saharan Africa, a key supply‐side constraint is the limited availability of seed embodying new traits in the volume, quality, price, and timeliness required by farmers. This constraint is partly attributable to classical failures in the market

Lost in aggregation? On the importance of local food price data for food poverty estimates

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper explores within‐country variations in food price dynamics and food poverty estimates by employing local market price data and national consumer price index (CPI) data. Our results show that national CPI data may be useful for approximating national trends but they fail to detect and identify spatial variations in local trends, which
