Water-deficit-responsive proteins in maritime pine
Plant Molecular Biology, 1998Two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2D-PAGE) was used to identify drought-responsive proteins during progressive water deprivation of two-year old maritime pine seedlings. Stress was applied by withholding water during vegetative growth. Needles were sampled before, during and after the stress.

Acclimation of Photosynthesis to Water Deficits
1984Photosynthesis (Ps) is inhibited at low leaf water potentials (Ψ). Generally, both stomatal and chloroplast functions are affected such that the supply and utilization of CO2 are decreased. Although sto-matal closure generally occurs when plants are exposed to water deficits, in some cases Ps may be more limited by chloroplast capacity to fix CO2 than ...

In the current context of climate change, periods of water deficit occur more frequentlyalong the crop cycle, leading to high yield losses. To limit the negative impact of recurrentwater deficits, plants can adapt, via the mobilization of “stress memory”, allowing them torespond to a subsequent stress in a faster and/or more intensive manner.
