NETWORK ANALYSIS FOR RESILIENCE EVALUATION IN WATER DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS

Environmental Engineering and Management Journal, 2015
Resilience is meant in this paper as the capability of a networked infrastructure to provide its service even if some components are failed: it depends both on net-wide measures of connectivity and the role of a single component. This paper has two objectives: first to show how a set of global measures can be obtained using techniques from network ...

New Approach to Water Distribution Network Calibration

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 1999
A new approach is proposed for calibrating hydraulic network models. This procedure uses a nonlinear optimization algorithm along with a standard, off-the-shelf, network solver. Pipe roughness is adjusted until simulation results agree with the values observed in the field.

Calibrating Water Distribution Network Models

Journal of Environmental Engineering, 1988
Calibration of water distribution network models is necessary in predicting their behavior under different loading conditions or in planning their expansions. Of the several data used in calibration, the predicted nodal demands and the pipe resistance coefficients are the least reliable.

Sampling design for water distribution network

2003
Modeling activities, specifically model calibration, need sensor measurements. Since data collection is expensive and time-consuming, ineffective measurements should be avoided. For this reason, it is important to have a method for designing the field data collection that will give the most useful information.

HydroGen: an Artificial Water Distribution Network Generator

Water Resources Management, 2013
Many (metaheuristic) techniques for water distribution network (WDN) design optimisation already have been developed. Despite of the aforementioned scientific attention, only few, high-quality benchmark networks are available for algorithm testing, which, in turn, hinders profound algorithm testing, sensitivity analysis and comparison of the developed ...

Security Issues in Drinking Water Distribution Networks

2008
This paper formulates the security problem of sensor placement in water distribution networks for contaminant detection. An initial attempt to develop a problem formulation is presented, suitable for mathematical analysis and design. Multiple risk-related objectives are minimized in order to compute the Pareto front of a set of possible solutions; the ...

Significance of Water Distribution Networks in Water Supply

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2011
It is a common temptation to suppose that consumer demand satisfaction is mostly dependent on the amount of water discharged into a network and hence, complaints about inadequate supply are usually blamed on insufficient production. However, a recent study by the authors indicated that equally important is the distribution network through which the ...

Detection of Contamination in Water Distribution Network

2013
Monitoring drinking water is an important public health problem because the safe drinking water is essential for human life. Many procedures have been developed for monitoring water quality in water treatment plants for years. Monitoring of water distribution systems has received less attention. The goal of this communication is to study the problem of

Optimized water distribution network design

1977
This thesis describes a study of two approaches to the design of water distribution networks to meet specified demands at minimum cost. One method is based on an incremental increase technique which first examines all possible "one-size" pipe increases in the network, then based on a benefit/cost analysis a decision is made on which pipe to increase ...
