Measurement of Diffusive Flux of Ammonia from Water
Analytical Chemistry, 1998An instrument was developed for the measurement of gaseous ammonia concentration, NH(3(sw,eq)), in equilibrium with surface waters, notably ocean water. The instrument measures the ammonia flux from a flowing water surface under defined conditions and allows the calculation of NH(3(sw,eq)) from the principles of Fickian diffusion.

Water Flux and Amniotic Fluid Volume: Understanding Fetal Water Flow
2008In a term human gestation, the amount of water in the fetal compartments, including the fetus, placenta, and amniotic fluid (AF), may exceed 5 L; in pathologic states, the amount may be much more because of excessive AF or fetal hydrops. Water largely flows from the maternal circulation to the fetus via the placenta, and the rate of fetal water ...

Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology, 1972
1. Anaesthetized rats were loaded with tritiated water and a jejunal loop was perfused with hypo-, iso-, and hypertonic buffered saline solutions. The blood flow, the disappearance rate (from the blood), and the appearance rate (in the intestinal lumen) were determined simultaneously. 2. A decrease of the blood flow from about 1.7 to 0.2

Improvements to Measuring Water Flux in the Vadose Zone
Journal of Environmental Quality, 2004ABSTRACTEvaluating the impact of land use practices on ground water quality has been difficult because few techniques are capable of monitoring the quality and quantity of soil water flow below the root zone without disturbing the soil profile and affecting natural flow processes.

The Parameterization of the Gravitational Water Flux in Fog Models
Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 1980Abstract The parameterization of the mean terminal fallspeed of the fog droplets ν has been analyzed in terms of the ratio between the liquid water content and the droplet concentration, W/N, as linked to the gravitational water flux G via G = νW. Computations have been carried out on the basis of 239 experimental droplet size distributions selected ...

Water and chloride fluxes in estuarine nereid polychaetes
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology, 19651. 1. Fluxes of chloride and water in Nereis succinea and N. vexillosa have been studied by measuring changes in weight and body chloride concentration following the sudden osmotic stress of transfer from one salinity to another. 2. 2. When animals are transferred within the salinity range of osmotic conformity, there is an immediate change in ...

Water and Carbon Fluxes in Ecosystems
1987One description of the aim of science is to achieve a sufficient understanding of the functioning of a system to be able to make predictions about the response of that system to a stimulus or perturbation. We may study and analyse ecological systems for many particular reasons and it is widely believed that this is both an intellectually stimulating ...

Water Vapor Flux Measurements from Aircraft
1991Large-scale measurements of land surface evaporation are required to develop techniques of integrating small-scale measurements into regional estimates of evaporation. These are necessary inputs into general circulation models that are used for weather forecasting (Mintz, 1984).
