Giant intracranial aneurysm water-hammer effect

Practical Neurology, 2019
A middle-aged man presented with new-onset vertigo and truncal imbalance. MR scan of brain showed an incidental giant partially thrombosed anterior communicating artery aneurysm with concentric blood products of varying age (figure 1). Subsequent catheter angiography showed the ‘water-hammer’ effect (video 1).

Water Hammer Pile Driver

Offshore Technology Conference, 1978
ABSTRACT The water hammer phenomenon appears to be naturally suited to the underwater driving of large offshore piles. Attributes include: no pile extensions to the surface; no practical depth limitations, and driving ability increases with depth; good physical compatibility and impedance-match to the pile; driving ...

Water hammer reduces fouling during natural water ultrafiltration

Water Research, 2012
Today's ultrafiltration processes use permeate flow reversal to remove fouling deposits on the feed side of ultrafiltration membranes. We report an as effective method: the opening and rapid closing of a valve on the permeate side of an ultrafiltration module. The sudden valve closure generates pressure fluctuations due to fluid inertia and is commonly

Water Hammer Analysis

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1969
Simplified methods of calculating hydraulic transients are set forth, with techniques for increasing the computing time interval over that permitted by the characteristics method. Lumping and interpolation methods are compared with mixed implicit and characteristics methods.

Numerical Calculation of Water Hammer

2023
In this chapter, the Method of Characteristics (MOC) is detailed and used to solve the mathematical models defined in the second chapter, where the reservoirpipe-valve-system is considered. The wave-speed adjustment (WSA) scheme is preferred for the MOC.

Relief from Water Hammer

Journal AWWA, 1938
Water hammer is still a "bugbear" to water works men. It seems to be forever with us in causing breakage and leaks in the distribution system. It is of concern to the superintendent because his service of supply is closely allied with the work of architects, engineers, and plumbers in making satisfactory distribution systems in buildings.

Plastic water hammer damper

Australian Journal of Civil Engineering, 2010
Water hammer could be damped in pipe networks using a short piece of plastic pipe of a diameter much larger than the diameter of the pipe in which water hammer is to be controlled. Experiments using four different polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe sizes, and different damper parameters and materials show that the device can effectively reduce pressure ...

Water hammer driven vibrator

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1997
The invention provides apparatus for shaking structures such as fins in a fluid agitator, shaking tables, shaking screens, conveyors, or the walls of bins or hoppers. The apparatus is driven by a hydraulic driving system in which high pressure pulses are generated by repeatedly creating water hammer within a conduit.
