Dynamic transient analysis of the reactor core barrel due to sudden rupture of the recirculation line piping [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We have analyzed sudden rupture of the primary cooling loop which causes a water hammer event for the reactor core barrel. Assuming that core barrel is a thin shell, we have performed dynamic stress and strain calculations in the frequency domain.

Techno‐Economic Analysis of Polylactic Acid from Corn Stover: Understanding Uncertainty and Variability via Artificial Intelligence Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
This study analyses the uncertainty and variability existing in the economic performance of polylactic acid (PLA) production, via integrating techno‐economic analysis with process models and Monte Carlo simulation enabled by artificial intelligence. The results show that the minimum selling price varies from $2,107 to $3076/t PLA.

Balanced Expression of the Diiron Oxygenase BioE Is Essential for Biotin Homeostasis in Elizabethkingia meningoseptica

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
BioE is a new diiron oxygenase that catalyzes the conversion of long‐chain acyl groups into pimeloyl thioester, initiating biotin synthesis. The overexpression of EmBioE disrupts lipid metabolic homeostasis, requiring repressor BioL to maintain a balance between long‐chain fatty acids and biotin synthesis.

Principles for Rigorous Design and Application of Synthetic Microbial Communities

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SynComs are artificially designed to enable inter‐species metabolic interactions, metabolic division of labor, and ecological interactions that can elicit phenotypes like colonization stability and environmental adaptation. This systematic review explores the processes used to construct SynComs, the assessment of the mechanisms of metabolic interaction

Optional Soil Infiltration Protocol [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The purpose of this resource is to determine the rate at which water soaks into the ground. Students place two cans into the soil and add water to them to a depth of at least 5 cm.

Full dimensional (15D) quantum-dynamical simulation of the protonated water-dimer II: infrared spectrum and vibrational dynamics

open access: yes, 2007
The infrared absorption spectrum of the protonated water dimer (H5O2+) is simulated in full dimensionality (15D) in the spectral range 0-4000 cm-1. The calculations are performed using the Multiconfiguration Time-Dependent Hartree (MCTDH) method for ...
