Management of water hyacinth, Eichhornia crassipes, in Lake Victoria Basin [PDF]
Water hyacinth is a free-floating waterweed native to the Amazon River Basin in South America. In its native range, water hyacinth is not an environmental problem, although the weed is one of the most invasive alien plants in freshwater environments.

The graphical abstract illustrates a flower classification model relying on the human visual system. The model captures images, simulates visual attention and photometric perception, extracts features of shape and color, and classifies flowers by using an optimized neural network that enhances recognition accuracy by mimicking the human eye's focusing ...

Water hyacinths retain river plastics
Rivers represent one of the main conduits for the delivery of plastics to the sea, while also functioning as reservoirs for plastic retention. In tropical regions, rivers are exposed to both high levels of plastic pollution and invasion of water hyacinths. This aquatic plant forms dense patches at the river surface that drift due to winds and currents.

Impact of nutrients and herbivory by Eccritotarsus catarinensis on the biological control of water hyacinth, Eichhornia crassipes [PDF]
Many water hyacinth infestations in South Africa are the symptom of eutrophication, and as a result, biological control of this weed is variable. This study examined the effects of herbivory by the mirid, Eccritotarsus catarinensis, on water hyacinth ...
