Experiments on imbibition mechanisms of fractured reservoirs by microfluidic chips
To solve the problems of long experiment period and difficult measurement in core imbibition experiments, fracture—matrix microfluidic chips of different sizes, boundary conditions and wettability regulated by surface property modification were designed ...

In order to investigate the characteristics of water displacement and adsorption of gas along the original cracks and pores of coal under the action of water-thermal coupling, imbibition experiments of 50 mm×100 mm columnar raw coal were carried out for ...

Imbibition of water and silicone oil in poplar and spruce is investigated at the anatomical level by X-ray tomography observations and at the macroscopic level by imbibition kinetics. Imbibition mechanisms depend on both liquid and species.

Core-scale modeling of surfactant-assisted spontaneous water imbibition in carbonates
This work numerically investigates surfactant effects on spontaneous water imbibition in oil-wet carbonates. An open boundary core-scale imbibition model with 9 × 9 × 10 gridblocks was used in UTCHEM to simulate carbonate core plug exposure to a vast ...

Capillary imbibition of confined water in nanopores [PDF]
The spontaneous capillary imbibition of confined nanopores is investigated using an analytical model that includes the slip effect, wettability and effective viscosity at the water surface interface. The results show that the effective viscosity of confined water is larger than that of bulk water and decreases with diameter and wettability.

Imaging spontaneous imbibition in full Darcy‐scale samples at pore‐scale resolution by fast X‐ray tomography [PDF]
Spontaneous imbibition is a process occurring in a porous medium which describes wetting phase replacing nonwetting phase spontaneously due to capillary forces.

Abnormal Phenomena and Mathematical Model of Fluid Imbibition in a Capillary Tube
At present, the imbibition behavior in tight rocks has been attracted increasing attention since spontaneous imbibition plays an important role in unconventional oil and gas development, such as increasing swept area and enhancing recovery rate. However,

Dynamic Pore-Scale Network Modeling of Spontaneous Water Imbibition in Shale and Tight Reservoirs
Spontaneous water imbibition plays an imperative role in the development of shale or tight oil reservoirs. Spontaneous water imbibition is helpful in the extraction of crude oil from the matrix, although it decreases the relative permeability of the ...
