Imbibition Model Studies on Water-Wet Carbonate Rocks [PDF]

open access: yesSociety of Petroleum Engineers Journal, 1966
Abstract Oil recovery by the imbibition mechanism can be important in fractured carbonate reservoirs with a bottom water drive. Laboratory experiments were performed on water-wet carbonate rocks to model this process. The results are interpreted in light of the applicable scaling laws.

Effect of Particle Size on Droplet Infiltration into Hydrophobic Porous Media As a Model of Water Repellent Soil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The wettability of soil is of great importance for plants and soil biota, and in determining the risk for preferential flow, surface runoff, flooding, and soil erosion. The molarity of ethanol droplet (MED) test is widely used for quantifying the severity

Imbibition in Disordered Media

open access: yes, 2004
The physics of liquids in porous media gives rise to many interesting phenomena, including imbibition where a viscous fluid displaces a less viscous one. Here we discuss the theoretical and experimental progress made in recent years in this field.

The role of the cell cycle machinery in resumption of postembryonic development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Cell cycle activity is required for plant growth and development, but its involvement in the early events that initiate seedling development remains to be clarified. We performed experiments aimed at understanding when cell cycle progression is activated

Capillary rise dynamics of liquid hydrocarbons in mesoporous silica as explored by gravimetry, optical and neutron imaging: Nano-rheology and determination of pore size distributions from the shape of imbibition fronts

open access: yes, 2015
We present gravimetrical, optical, and neutron imaging measurements of the capillarity-driven infiltration of mesoporous silica glass by hydrocarbons. Square-root-of-time Lucas-Washburn invasion kinetics are found for linear alkanes from n-decane (C10 ...

A fast ethanol assay to detect seed deterioration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The most common way to test seed quality is to use a simple and reliable but time- and space-consuming germination test. In this paper we present a fast and simple method to analyse cabbage seed deterioration by measuring ethanol production from ...

Effect of Water Distribution on Spontaneous Imbibition of Tight Rocks: A Fractal Approach

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
The original water distribution characteristic plays an important role in the fracturing liquid retention in actual tight reservoirs. In this paper, an analytical model was proposed to characterize the water distribution and its effect on the spontaneous

The prediction of spontaneous oil-water imbibition in composite capillary

open access: yesPetroleum, 2022
In view of the classical Lucas-Washburn equation, which can only describe the spontaneous imbibition of single wetted capillary, a tilted composite capillary model with circular cross section, composed of different wettability capillary wall was ...

Imbibition in mesoporous silica: rheological concepts and experiments on water and a liquid crystal

open access: yes, 2011
We present, along with some fundamental concepts regarding imbibition of liquids in porous hosts, an experimental, gravimetric study on the capillarity-driven invasion dynamics of water and of the rod-like liquid crystal octyloxycyanobiphenyl (8OCB) in ...
