Hot-water aquifer storage: A field test [PDF]

open access: yes
The basic water injection cycle used in a large-scale field study of heat storage in a confined aquifer near Mobile, Alabama is described. Water was pumped from an upper semi-confined aquifer, passed through a boiler where it was heated to a temperature ...

Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

AdBlue Port Injection for Dual-Fuel Compression-Ignition Engine Knock Suppression

open access: yesEnergies
Dual-fuel, diesel–LPG (LPG being Liquified Petroleum Gas, e.g., propane) compression-ignition engines reduce CO2 and particulate emissions compared to diesel-only operation but are prone to knock at high load due to charge homogeneity and increased ...

Electric properties of granitic rocks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The objective of this work is to clarify the role of water content on the charge trans- port mechanisms of different granitic rocks. The mineralogical content of the rocks will also be taken into account. From the electrical point of view these materials

Interband Tunneling for Hole Injection in III-Nitride Ultra-violet Emitters

open access: yes, 2015
Ultra-violet emitters have several applications in the areas of sensing, water purification, and data storage. While the III-Nitride semiconductor system has the band gap region necessary for ultraviolet emission, achieving efficient ultraviolet solid ...

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Sulfide Production and Microbial Dynamics in the Water Reinjection System from an Offshore Oil-Producing Platform

open access: yesMicroorganisms
In addition to seawater in the injection header (IH) to enhance oil recovery, oil companies reuse produced water (PW), a byproduct of oil extraction, and implement produced water reinjection systems (PWRI).

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Heavy Knocking Suppression and NOX Emission Reduction by Means of Port Water Injection on a CFR SI Engine

open access: yesEnergies
The energy transition in the transportation sector makes hydrogen a promising candidate as a fuel for internal combustion engines; however, its tendency to knock limits its use to lean mixtures, resulting in a reduction in performance.
