Urban Water Mass Balance Analysis

Journal of Industrial Ecology, 2011
Planning for “water-sensitive” cities has become a priority for sustainable urban development in Australia. There has been little quantification of the term, however. Furthermore, the water balance of most cities is not well known. Following prolonged drought, there has also been a growing need to make Australian cities more water self-reliant: to ...

Water mass distributions in the Southern Ocean derived from a parametric analysis of mixing water masses

Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 2007
An empirical method to reconstruct distributions of mixing water masses is developed and applied to two Southern Ocean (Australian sector) data sets. The method is a parametric extension of the well‐known Optimum Multiparameter (OMP) analysis, therefore called POMP (parametric OMP).

Chlorofluorocarbon distribution in the ross sea water masses

Chemistry and Ecology, 2004
Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC11, CFC12 and CFC113) data, collected during the 2000-2001 austral summer, within the framework of the activities of the Climatic Long-Term Interactions for the Mass-Balance in Antarctica (CLIMA) Project of the Italian National Program for Antarctic Research (PNRA) in the Ross Sea, are discussed in the context of hydrographic ...

Water Masses in the Pacific in CCSM3

Journal of Climate, 2008
Abstract An examination of model water masses in the North Pacific Ocean is performed in the Community Climate System version 3 (CCSM3) and its ocean-only counterpart. While the surface properties of the ocean are well represented in both simulations, biases in thermocline and intermediate-water masses exist that point to errors in both ...

Life in the Mass of Water

1963
The first studies of plankton in Baikal were made by V. N. Yasnitsky (1923, 1924, 1930; Yasnitsky & Skabichevsky, 1957),K.I.Meyer (1930),as well as by S.M.Visloukh (1924), A. G. Genkel (1925),V.A.Yashnov (1922),B.V. Skvortsov (1937; Skvortsov & Meyer, 1928), A. P.Skabichevsky (1929, 1935, 1954), A. A. Zakhvatkin (1932).

Mass spectrometry for monitoring micropollutants in water

Current Opinion in Biotechnology, 2007
Surface water reservoirs and aquifers are exposed to contamination by thousands of micropollutants from industrial, pharmaceutical, agricultural and natural origins. Most developed and developing countries implement a water-quality regulation programme to prevent contamination by such chemicals at illegal concentrations.
