Full-scale fire experiment using the old living but built in 1969 at Syowa Station, Antarctica and application of micro-fog fire extinguishing equipment

open access: yesAntarctic Record, 2002
Some buildings have been brought back from Syowa Station in Antarctica after 30 years of use. One was used to investigate the combustion properties of the fire retarded plywood which was used in the walls.

Water Mist Fire Suppression

open access: yes, 2011
A super-fine water mist system for fire suppression at the CO2 compressor train at Yara Belle Plaine has been designed, in compliance with NFPA 750, ASME B31.3 and Yara Best Practice procedures. The system targets specific suppression zones to efficiently suppress a fire while minimizing equipment damage.

Illicit Drug‐Derived Volatile Organic Compounds as Markers for Application in Noncontact Detection Technology

open access: yesThe Chemical Record, EarlyView.
This review highlights the characteristic odor markers of illicit drugs, emphasizing volatile markers from both natural and synthetic sources, and explores the shift from canine‐based detection to emerging noncontact sensing technologies. Illicit drug use remains a global concern, requiring effective detection methods to counter evolving concealment ...

Experimental Study on the Influence of High-Pressure Water Mist on the Ceiling Temperature of a Longitudinally Ventilated Tunnel

open access: yesFire
In this study, a tunnel model with a length of 20 m, a width of 5 m, and a height of 5 m was used, and an experimental investigation was conducted to examine the impact of high-pressure water mist on the temperature distribution along the tunnel ceiling.

Erectile and ejaculatory outcomes after holmium laser enucleation of the prostate: A comprehensive narrative review

open access: yesUroPrecision, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) has emerged as a widely adopted surgical technique for the management of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), regardless of prostate size; however, its impact on male sexual function—particularly in terms of erectile and ejaculatory outcomes—remains a subject of ongoing debate.

Nesting ecology of an ice‐associated seabird, Kittlitz's murrelet, at the northern edge of its range

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, EarlyView.
We studied the Kittlitz's murrelet, an ice‐associated seabird of conservation concern, at the northern edge of its range. Over a 2‐year period, we estimated nest density and success at 2 sites, captured and telemetered nesting murrelets, and tested the use of a thermal camera to improve nest detection.

Application Analysis of High Pressure Fine Water Mist Extinguishing Technology in Metro Vehicles

open access: yes机车电传动, 2020
In order to ensure the safety of personnel and vehicle equipment in the case of fire in metro vehicles, it is necessary to strengthen the response capacity of metro vehicles to fire, and this was the proposal of adding high pressure fine water mist fire ...

Parental care and bird embryonic metabolism: A comparison between uniparentally incubating Silver‐throated Tits and biparentally incubating Black‐throated Tits

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Studies have shown that organisms may adjust metabolic rates in response to thermal variability, highlighting metabolic plasticity as a key adaptive mechanism. Understanding the extent of metabolic plasticity of an organism is key to predicting its adaptation to climate

Ecophysiology of an Avian Invader: Body Condition and Metabolic Rate Adjustments to Ambient Temperature

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
This study examines the ecophysiological responses of common waxbills to temperature variation in Portugal. We measured body condition and basal metabolic rate (BMR) during summer and winter across two regions in Portugal. Body condition was negatively correlated with temperature, while the relationship between BMR and temperature varied seasonally. In
