AbstractThe water mites of standing waters have evolved a novel respiratory system consisting of numerous independent tracheae of tracheolar dimensions. Each trachea has a portion of its length lying directly under the cuticle and one or both ends of the trachea turn into the body to supply some organ.

Water Mites (Hydrachnidiae) and Other Arachnids
2001Mites belonging to several unrelated groups are commonly found in freshwater habitats. The true water mites comprise a taxon of actinedid acariform mites, which is referred to as Hydrachnidiae. Hydrachnidiae have flourished to become by far the most numerous, diverse, and ecologically important group of freshwater arachnids. Various families in certain

Hyperparasitism of mosquitoes by water mite larvae
Parasitology Research, 2015Hyperparasitism of ectoparasitic water mite larvae on mosquitoes is still a neglected relationship and was investigated only in a few studies. We analysed 2313 female mosquitoes from six different sampling localities with regard to their degree of parasitism with water mite larvae. In total, we found 38 mosquito individuals parasitized by 93 water mite

Torrenticolid water mites (Acari: Hydrachnidia: Torrenticolidae) from Ghana
Zootaxa, 2014New records of water mites of the family Torrenticolidae (Acari: Hydrachnidia) from streams in Ghana are presented. One new subgenus, Vietsclio n. subgen., is erected to accommodate Monatractides uniscutatus (K. Viets, 1925), characterized by the presence of swimming setae on leg II–IV.

Water mite parasitism of water boatmen (Hemiptera:Corixidae)
1977In this study the consequences of water mite parasitism on water boatmen were investigated, concentrating on two host species of the genus Cenocorixa. It was established that mite parasitism severely restricted egg production in Cenocorixa bifida Hung.: whether this should be attributed to a nutritional drain or through hormonal intervention was ...
