Chemical Engineering Aspects of Water Pollution Control

1973
In this paper the importance of a study of water treatment processes based on the principles of classical chemical engineering is stressed. Biological reaction engineering plays an increasing role in defining new necessary unit operations. The importance of inplant measures to prevent pollution rather than abate it is pointed out.

Water, Endangered Ecosystem: Assessment of Chemical Pollution

Journal of Environmental Engineering, 1992
The pervasive nature of water and its accessibility to mankind leave it open to a variety of civilization-induced changes ranging from diversion of water flows to heavy-metals pollution. The abuses of the last 100 years have led to problems with water quality and quantity.

Chemical Indicators of Surface Water Pollution

2006
High quality surface water is critical for maintaining healthy ecosystems and ensuring safe drinking water, yet is often compromised by point and non-point contamination sources. Failed septic systems, an example of non-point source pollution, may generate pools of untreated or minimally treated wastewater that can runoff into nearby streams. There are

Water Treatment Chemicals for Pollution Minimization and Management

2020
Water is vital for sustenance of life and smooth living. The reliable and safe supply of water is a prime necessity of the most important determinants of human health. The treatment of water is essential to remove contaminants and undesirable components and reduce their concentration to make water fit for its desired end use.

CHEMICAL POLLUTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT WATER SOURCES AND HEALTH

Environmental Engineering and Management Journal, 2004
The progress of civilization as a whole (urbanization, demographical explosion and massive concentration of humans in towns and cities, vertiginous industrialization, the intense development of the motorized traffic, the chemical substances used in agriculture and even in the domestic economy etc.) has profoundly altered the living environment of human

Smartphone-Based Device for Monitoring Chemical Pollutants in Water

Volume 3: Biomedical and Biotechnology Engineering, 2018
There remains a need for a cost-effective, sensitive and on-site analytical technique which requires minimal technical skills for monitoring chemical contaminants in water. This research work presents a smartphone-based colorimetric detection of trace chemical pollutants in water.

Controlling chemical and biological water pollution by quantitative bioassaying

Water Research, 1990
Abstract The study performed, which has been based on a mathematical method of test culture response to action by a number of chemical water pollutants, showed possibilities of research on biological as well as chemical factors of water pollution.

Bacterial and chemical indicator of coastal water pollution.

1993
This study has been carried out to compare the presence of some organic compounds of long environmental persistance (OCLEP) and heavy metals, in sea water samples, with faecal pollution indicators. Along the Sicily coast line three sites with different grade of pollution (urban, agricultural, industrial) were sampled.

Automatic survey and chemical pollution in the Calabrian coastal waters

1998
Human impact along the Italian coasts has caused alterations to the quality of the sea water which receives various polluting substances. The aim of the present work was to perform a check of the physical and chemical parameters of sea water and to determine the presence and distribution of substances, chosen as indicators of chemical pollution, in an ...
