Monitoring water quality from LANDSAT [PDF]

open access: yes
Water quality monitoring possibilities from LANDSAT were demonstrated both for direct readings of reflectances from the water and indirect monitoring of changes in use of land surrounding Swift Creek Reservoir in a joint project with the Virginia State ...

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

Effects of a variable air–water interface on injection of PFAS—Lessons learned from column tests with porous media

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal
Five column experiments were conducted using a mixture of 10 per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) to explore sampling techniques for the PFAS injection solution concentration in order to accurately determine the tracer mass within the experimental

The distribution of nano- and microplastics in the human body: a hybrid perfusion-diffusion based PBK model

open access: yesEnvironment International
A key bottleneck in human health risk assessment of nano- and microplastics (NMPs) is the limited applicability of physiologically based kinetic (PBK) models that simulate particle distributions within the body based on external exposure.

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

PAK1 activation drives divergent resistance mechanisms to aromatase inhibition and tamoxifen in a luminal: A breast cancer model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.

Contamination and source-oriented health risk assessment of heavy metals in sediments: a case study of the Yixun River Basin, China

open access: yesScientific Reports
As a result of their tendency to enter various ecosystems, bioavailable heavy metals (HMs) have become major human public health concerns. The diverse characteristics and variations in the bioavailable forms of various HMs can cause a range of specific ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Fuzzy Logic Water Quality Index and Importance of Water Quality Parameters

open access: yesAir, Soil and Water Research, 2009
Determination of status of water quality of a river or any other water sources is highly indeterminate. It is necessary to have a competent model to predict the status of water quality and to advice for type of water treatment for meeting different ...
