Aquaporin‐3 and aquaporin‐5 impact the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma spheroids

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the role of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3) and aquaporin‐5 (AQP5) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Both proteins are upregulated in PDAC and are associated with tumor progression and metastatic potential. Silencing AQP3 or AQP5 in PDAC spheroids results in decreased diameter, area, and overall growth, underscoring their key ...

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Water Quality Assessment Program

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1990
A national effort to assess water quality begins this year. The National Water Quality Assessment (NAWQA) will be undertaken by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with other federal, state, and local agencies, and the private sector. Its purpose, said Department of Interior secretary Manuel Lujan, is to “provide the fundamental types of ...

Loss of AMBRA1 activates MAPK and angiogenesis signaling pathways in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Loss of AMBRA1 in melanoma cells activates multiple oncogenic pathways associated with tumor progression. Transcriptomic and protein network analyses revealed that AMBRA1 depletion enhances MAPK/ERK signaling, angiogenesis, TGF‐β/EMT signaling, and Wnt/axon guidance pathways.

Treatment with KCL‐286, a first‐in‐class retinoic acid receptor‐β (RARβ) agonist, ameliorates neuronal DNA damage and inflammation in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Repair of neuronal DNA damage in Alzheimer's disease by KCL‐286. (A) Amyloid‐β oligomers and plaques impair neuronal DNA repair pathways, leading to DNA double‐strand breaks and glial activation. (B) KCL‐286 activates RARβ/RXR signalling via retinoic acid response elements (RAREs), associated with increased BRCA1 expression, enhanced DNA repair and ...

Drinking water quality assessment.

open access: yesJournal of Nepal Health Research Council, 2013
Drinking water quality is the great public health concern because it is a major risk factor for high incidence of diarrheal diseases in Nepal. In the recent years, the prevalence rate of diarrhoea has been found the highest in Myagdi district. This study was carried out to assess the quality of drinking water from different natural sources, reservoirs ...

Importin 7 mediates the nuclear import of HIV‐1 integrase via a specific interacting interface

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HIV‐1 integrase enables viral DNA integration into the host genome. By binding to the core domain of the host protein Importin 7 via its C‐terminal domain, the integrase is transported across the nuclear membrane into the nucleus, where integration of the viral genome into host DNA takes place. This translocation is a critical step for subsequent viral
