Effective furrow sowing for water repellent soils [PDF]

open access: yes
Furrow sowing creates micro-relief, small ridges, and furrows into which water can be harvested. Sloping water repellent surfaces induce run-off, which collects at the base of the sown furrow, enhancing water entry through increased hydraulic ...

Nepenthes pitcher plant inspired bio-polymer embedded porous surfaces for oil aquaplaning

open access: yesScientific Reports
The Nepenthes pitcher plant has inspired surfaces employing a liquid barrier that shields the surface from contaminants. However, such liquid-infused oil-repellent surfaces employ toxic fluorocarbons or unstable polar liquids.

Bionic Solar‐Powered Heavy Metal Trap for Eco‐Friendly Sludge Drying and Simultaneous Electricity Generation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Herein, we propose a solar‐powered heavy metal trap (SPHT) for sludge disposal. The indoor experiments demonstrated that the sludge water content decreased from 90 % to 31 %, coupled with a decrease in heavy metal content to 6 % at most. Furthermore, the designed SPHT generated an initial potential of 0.10 V, and monitoring this hydrovoltaic potential ...

Erodibility in synthetic water repellent soils [PDF]

open access: yes
: Fire induced soil water repellency (or hydrophobicity) is a major contributor of post-wildfire debris flow. By altering the hydrological responses of soils, the infiltration rate is significantly reduced and surface runoff is enhanced during rainfall ...

W‐N‐C Tandem Catalytic Centers Mediating Efficient Charge Transfer for the Enhanced Radical‐Path U(VI) Photoreduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work constructed a tandem W−N−C center to simultaneously achieve the regulation of reaction pathways and optimization of charge separation efficiency. The Lewis‐acidic W6+ sites activated O2 to generate O2−$O_2^ - $, with enhanced charge separation via electronic modulation, steering U(VI) reduction down an efficient radical pathway.

Tailoring Multifunctional Carbon Dots via Precursor Stoichiometry: Switching Between Solid‐State Fluorescence and Broadband Absorption Through Aggregation Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Precursor stoichiometry programs the surface chemistry of carbon dots, directing their self‐assembly into distinct aggregation modes. Aldehyde‐enriched surfaces form ordered, hydrogen‐bonded assemblies that enable bright red solid‐state fluorescence, whereas amine‐rich surfaces promote compact π–π stacked aggregates with broadband visible‐light ...

Synthesis of urethane-based non-F-containing water repellent agents including various models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this study, Non-F-containing water repellent agents having urethane bonds were prepared from isocyanurate trimer as the central structure and sorbitan trioleate (STO-OH) or sorbitan tristearate (STS-OH) in the presence of Lewis acid catalyst.

Ligand‐Defined Interfacial Chemistry Enables Instant and Sequence‐General DNA Chemisorption on Gold Nanoparticles Toward Label‐Free SERS With Single‐Base Resolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ascorbic Acid‐Engineered Interface Enables Universal DNA Functionalization on Gold Nanoparticles: Attenuating electrostatic repulsion and leveraging synergistic hydrogen‐bonding interactions significantly lowers the kinetic barrier for DNA adsorption, enabling rapid and sequence‐general functionalization of non‐thiolated DNA‐requiring only a single ...

Motion of a Highly Water-Repellent Sphere in Newtonian Fluids”, [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
It has, recently noticed the flow characteristics on a highly water-repellent wall on which a gas-liquid interface occurs near the solid surface. We have reported the drag reduction of flow around a circular cylinder with a highly water-repellent wall ...
