Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Root developmental responses to heterogeneous water and nitrogen supply [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Better understanding of the interaction between the soil physical properties determining water and nitrate availability and the root proliferation and gene expression components of nutrient acquisition could contribute to food security, but may have been

CsPbBr3/Porous‐SiO2 Composite Film for Efficient Perovskite Light‐Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces
This study aims to enhance the performance of inorganic perovskite light‐emitting diodes (PeLEDs) by incorporating porous silica (p‐SiO2) to fabricate perovskite‐composite films for electroluminescence (EL) devices.

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

On the importance of antifouling coatings regarding ship resistance and powering

open access: yes, 2013
This paper aims to introduce one of the latest investigations on development of marine antifouling coatings and also to demonstrate the importance of the type of antifouling coatings on fouling accumulation and ship resistance/powering.

WATER-BASED EXERCISE AND RESISTANCE TRAINING IMPROVE COGNITION IN OLDER ADULTS

open access: yes, 2019
Introduction: Physical exercise has been associated with maintenance of physical abilities and the reduction of age-related cognitive decline, and is considered both a low-cost primary prevention strategy and a non-pharmacological treatment of cognitive ...

Formaldehyde-Free Bio-composites Based on Pleurotus ostreatus Substrate and Corn Straw Waste

open access: yesBioResources
Corn straw-based board has great potential for the protection of forest resources, waste recycling, and sustainable economic development. However, corn stalk-based board has poor mechanical properties due to its short fiber length and poor water ...

Time‐restricted feeding prior to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection reduces tissue CD4+ T cells with limited impact on bacterial clearance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) in mice increased liver fatty acid oxidation and decreased fatty acid biosynthesis. These alterations persisted when TRF was discontinued and the host was infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pre‐exposure to TRF did not alter tissue (lung and spleen) mycobacterial burden but significantly reduced CD3+ T cells in lungs

Human Adenovirus as Water Virological Quality Indicator

open access: yes, 2017
In Europe, the microbial water quality is evaluated mainly with the detection and quantification of indicators and pathogen bacteria: colony count at 22°C and 37°C, coliforms, E. coli, intestinal enterococci (IE), C.
