Comparison of air entry values from soil water retention and volumetric shrinkage characteristic curves

open access: yesJapanese Geotechnical Society Special Publication, 2019
The soil water retention curve (SWRC) is the relationship between the volumetric water content and the matric suction of an unsaturated soil. One key parameter of the SWRC is the air-entry value (AEV), which defines the minimum matric suction at which air starts to enter the largest pores in the soil as it desaturates.

Soil hydraulic properties of a Nitisol in Kabete, Kenya [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Water relations are among the most important physical phenomena that affect the use of soils for agricultural, ecological, environmental, and engineering purposes. To formulate soil-water relationships, soil hydraulic properties are required as essential

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Historical changes (1905-2005) in external phosphorus loads to Loch Leven, Scotland, UK [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This article reviews historical changes in the total phosphorus (TP) inputs to Loch Leven, Scotland, UK. Data derived from palaeolimnological records suggest that inputs in the early 1900s were about 6 t TP year-1 (0.45 g TP m-2 year-1).

Impact of pulp drying modes for water-retention values measured by headspace gas chromatographic method

open access: yesBioResources, 2019
The water-retaining capabilities of bleached chemical pulps treated by the oven-, air-, vacuum-, and freeze-drying modes were determined with use of a reliable the headspace gas chromatographic method (HS-GC) developed recently. The results showed that reliable water retention data could be determined by the HS-GC method only in the case of air-dried ...
