SWOT Reveals Detailed Dynamics of Longitudinal River Slope in the Missouri River Basin

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
River water surface slope (WSS) is a crucial variable for a wide range of studies in hydrology, hydraulics, and morphology. However, current in situ and remote sensing methods have limitations in characterizing the WSS of global river systems.

A method for extracting water surface and hydrophytic vegetation from ICESat-2 data in wetlands

open access: yesISPRS Open Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing
The Ice, Cloud, and Land Elevation Satellite-2 provides a great opportunity to measure water surface and hydrophytic vegetation in complex wetlands. Obtaining reliable signal photons from ICESat-2 data in wetlands is challenging because there are many ...

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

Electrochemical Behavior of Flame‐Sprayed Sc‐Doped AlCoCrFeMo High‐Entropy Alloy Coatings in 3.5% Sodium Chloride Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Scandium (Sc)‐doped AlCoCrFeMo HEA coatings are fabricated via flame spraying with 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt% Sc additions. Among these, the HEA‐Sc0.3 coating exhibits the highest corrosion resistance, indicated by a more positive corrosion potential and lower current density.

Seasonal Changes in Mire Surface Oscillation as an Indicator of Water Storage Capacity—A Case Study of the Great Vasyugan Mire, Western Siberia

open access: yesHydrology
Surface oscillation is an important mechanism for the hydrological self-regulation of mires: it prevents the attenuation of flooding by storing water during high precipitation events and snowmelt.

Experimental Characterization and Constitutive Modeling of the Effect of Prior Inelastic Strain on the Viscoplastic Behavior of AD730 at 700 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.

Machine Learning‐Supported Analysis for Predicting and Visualizing Nonlinear Relationships Between Material Properties in Electroplated Chromium Layers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study applies machine learning regression to predict chromium layer thickness in decorative trivalent chromium electroplating, using 441 experiments from laboratory‐scale (1L) and pilot‐scale (14L) setups. Tree‐based models, particularly CatBoost, outperformed linear regression by capturing nonlinear parameter interactions (R2$R^2$ up to 0.77 ...

Additive Manufacturing of Alumina‐Reinforced Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Vat‐photopolymerized elastomers reinforced with platelet‐shaped alumina exhibited preferential orientation, reduced porosity, and significantly enhanced mechanical performance. A 3 wt% platelet loading increased tensile strength from 12.4 to 45.7 MPa, highlighting the critical role of filler morphology in elastomeric VPP composites.

Impact of MgO Additions on the Oxidation Resistance and Compression Behavior of Vanadium Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An increase in oxidation resistance at 600 °C is achieved for alloys containing more than 2.5 wt.% MgO. It has been established that, along with V2O5, MgO6V2, and Mg2O7V2 are formed, which are presumed to enhance oxidative stability. Furthermore, the possible transformation of Mg‐vanadates through reaction with CO2, which presumably occurs in this ...

Monitoring water surface elevation and river width using SWOT: insights into observation geometry, phase noise, and geomorphic modulation in the Yangtze River

open access: yesGIScience & Remote Sensing
For inland rivers with complex topographies, however, conventional nadir altimeters often fail to meet accuracy requirements and exhibit substantial spatial sampling limitations.
