Chapter 2 comprises a brief introduction to water treatment, highlighting the common sources of raw water such as groundwater as well as river, lake, and reservoir water. Wetlands are often associated with the shores of the latter three water sources. Some common standard water treatment processes such as coagulation, flocculation, and filtration are ...

Proceedings of SPE Health, Safety and Environment in Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Conference, 1994
ABSTRACT In 1992, PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia oil field operations in Sumatra resulted in 680,000 barrels of oil produced daily and 4,600,000 barrels of slightly brackish produced water. This paper discusses the systems in operation to separate oil, gas and water to provide oil for export, gas for power generation and ...

This chapter is admirably written and covers the ground in a very satisfactory way. In general, it is above the writer's plane of criticism . There is a typographical error in the table giving the subsiding value of silt. In this, the time required for particles 0.01 mm. in diameter to settle one foot should be 330, not 33.0 minutes.

Nanocomposites for Water Treatment
ECS Transactions, 2007The treatment of waste water involves, amongst other processes, the removal of heavy metal ion pollutants and/or organic contaminants. As one component of a potential aluminosilicate nanocomposite for water treatment, we have demonstrated the effectiveness of using Maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) as a photocatalyst for the reduction of the aqueous pollutant ...

Dissolved-air flotation is a very effective solid-liquid separation process used in water treatment, as an alternative to sedimentation, to lower the solids concentrations before granular filtration. This enables filters to be operated more effectively and cost efficiently to produce a filtered water quality suitable, after disinfection, for potable ...

Water treatment and monitor disinfection
Hemodialysis International, 2006AbstractWater treatment system and dialysis monitors are susceptible to microbial contaminations and periodical disinfection procedures are mandatory to obtain results requested from international standards and guidelines. Several chemical germicides or some physical treatments are on the market validated by device manufacturer according to medical ...

Water treatment for hemodialysis
1994According to an Italian proverb “Aqua torbido non lava” i.e. “Dirty water does not wash clean”. This can be most aptly applied to the water used for hemodialysis. If the water used for hemodialysis is “dirty”, the blood of the hemodialysis patient will not be “washed clean”.

Biofouling is understood as the unwanted deposition and growth of living organisms on surfaces. In water treatment, in almost all cases it is caused by microorganisms They can contaminate the water, cover and block surfaces, host pathogens, and attack their support. Biofouling is a biofilm problem.
