Water Vapor Characteristics of Summer Drought and Flood and Typical Rainstorm in Hexi Corridor
Water vapor source and transport path are main factors of affecting drought-flood mode in Hexi region of China, and also key factors to be considered in the rainstorm forecast in this region.Using conventional observations and ERA-Interim reanalysis data

Water vapor: An extraordinary terahertz wave source under optical excitation [PDF]
In modern terahertz (THz) sensing and imaging spectroscopy, water is considered a nemesis to be avoided due to strong absorption in the THz frequency range. Here we report the first experimental demonstration and theoretical implications of using femtosecond laser pulses to generate intense broadband THz emission from water vapor.

Multi-Hollow Surface Dielectric Barrier Discharge for Bacterial Biofilm Decontamination
The plasma-activated gas is capable of decontaminating surfaces of different materials in remote distances. The effect of plasma-activated water vapor on Staphylococcus epidermidis, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and

Lateral mixing as a source of subtropical water vapor [PDF]
It is hypothesized that the subtropical tropospheric water vapor distribution results from the interplay of three factors: subsidence, which brings down dry air from aloft; lateral mixing, which brings in moistened air from the convective region at various rates; and drying by processing of air through the cold extratropics.

Retrieval of water vapor vertical distributions in the upper troposphere and the lower stratosphere from SCIAMACHY limb measurements [PDF]
This study describes the retrieval of water vapor vertical distributions in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere (UTLS) altitude range from space-borne observations of the scattered solar light made in limb viewing geometry.

Sources and sinks of stratospheric water vapor [PDF]
A tutorial review of the understanding of stratospheric H/sub 2/O and the processes controlling it is presented. Paradoxes posed by currently available observational data are cited and suggestions made as to how they might be resolved. Such resolution appears to require: that the bulk of our current data provides unrepresentative and misleading ...

Correlation among cirrus ice content, water vapor and temperature in the TTL as observed by CALIPSO and Aura/MLS [PDF]
Water vapor in the tropical tropopause layer (TTL) has a local radiative cooling effect. As a source for ice in cirrus clouds, however, it can also indirectly produce infrared heating.

On the existence of an extraterrestrial source of water vapor in the middle atmosphere
Observations of the ultraviolet dayglow of atomic oxygen from the DE‐1 spacecraft (Frank et al., 1986a,b) have revealed the existence of frequent localized decreases ("holes") in the emitted intensity. These have been interpreted as evidence of a steady influx of small "comets" whose icy envelope would provide a source of H2O molecules in the upper ...
