Waterflood Strategy – Challenges and Innovations

Abu Dhabi International Conference and Exhibition, 2004
Abstract More than thirty years ago, Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company (Gupco) - Egypt, initiated the first waterflood project for El Morgan oil field. The company now operating 14 different waterflood reservoirs. These reservoirs have produced a cumulative oil representing 40% of their original oil-in-place.

Waterflooding

1986
Waterflooding is an important method of improving recovery, but successful waterflood performance requires a sound design. Waterflooding begins with understanding the basic principles of immiscible displacement, then presents a systematic procedure for designing a waterflood.

Mechanistic Modeling of Carbonated Waterflooding

SPE Improved Oil Recovery Conference, 2018
AbstractCO2 enhanced oil recovery is usually affected by poor sweep efficiency due to unfavorable mobility contrast between the injected CO2 and oil. To alleviate this problem, CO2 is added to the injected brine and transported in the reservoir by flood water.

Heavy Oil Waterflooding Enabled by Optimal Waterflood Voidage Management

Proceedings, 2015
Increasingly the remaining conventional oil resources to be developed are offshore and heavy. The North Sea leads this transition, with several projects planned for development with an API of less than 15. Implicitly the industry assumes that waterflood practices & paradigms developed for onshore light oils can be applied largely unmodified for ...

Selective Waterflood System Paving the Way for Effective Waterflood and Reservoir Management

82nd EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition, 2021
Summary Selective waterflood injection system has proved to be an effective tool to increase the sweep efficiency and reduce the residual oil saturation from wells completed in a complex and heterogenous reservoirs in mature oil field. This is a cost-effective technology which has played a significant role to unravel the untapped reserves from existing

Waterflooding: Chemistry

2020
Used successfully for more than a century, waterflooding remains the most widely performed process relying on an external energy source to maximize reservoir recovery. Multiple factors across a wide range of disciplines contribute to the delivery of a fully optimized project, but not all of these critical success factors have been well-documented.

EVALUATION OF POLYMER ALTERNATING WATERFLOODING IN MULTILAYERED HETEROGENEOUS WATERFLOODED RESERVOIR

2023
Polymer flooding is widely implemented to improve oil recovery since it can increase sweep efficiency and smoothen reservoir profile. However, polymer solution is somewhat difficult to be injected due to high viscosity thus, water slug is recommended to be injected before and during polymer injection in order to increase an ease of injecting this ...

Optimizing Waterflood Recovery in a Mature Waterflood, The Fullerton Clearfork Unit

SPE Annual Fall Technical Conference and Exhibition, 1976
American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers Inc. Abstract After a detailed study of 12 years' performance of the Fullerton Clearfork performance of the Fullerton Clearfork Unit, a special study group recommended major operating changes which will increase ultimate oil recovery
