Watermelon Mosaic Virus and Zucchini Yellow Mosaic Virus

2008
Watermelon mosaic virus (WMV) and zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV) are two major potyviruses infecting cucurbits. WMV is the causal agent of one of the first described cucurbit mosaic virus diseases, while ZYMV emerged as a major cucurbit pathogen causing severe yield losses only in the late 1970s.

Development of transgenic watermelon resistant to Cucumber mosaic virus and Watermelon mosaic virus by using a single chimeric transgene construct

Transgenic Research, 2011
Watermelon, an important fruit crop worldwide, is prone to attack by several viruses that often results in destructive yield loss. To develop a transgenic watermelon resistant to multiple virus infection, a single chimeric transgene comprising a silencer DNA from the partial N gene of Watermelon silver mottle virus (WSMoV) fused to the partial coat ...

Serological and molecular variability of watermelon mosaic virus (genus Potyvirus)

Archives of Virology, 2007
Watermelon mosaic virus (WMV, genus Potyvirus) is very common in cucurbits worldwide, but its variability has been little studied. In France, where WMV has been known since 1974, unusually severe symptoms on zucchini squash have been found to be associated with WMV since 1999.

Molecular variability of watermelon mosaic virus isolates from Argentina

European Journal of Plant Pathology, 2020
Watermelon mosaic virus (WMV) is an economically important virus of cucurbit crops in Argentina. The available information on genetic variability must be continuously updated. In this study, we assessed the molecular variability of WMV isolates in Argentina based on the partial sequences of the NIb-CP region and compared them with isolates previously ...

Genetic diversity and population structure of Watermelon mosaic virus

Journal of Plant Diseases and Protection, 2017
Watermelon mosaic virus (WMV) is one of the most important viruses infecting a wide range of plant species. Population genetic analysis of WMV was performed based on the virus coat protein (CP) gene sequences of ten isolates identified in this study and 89 additional isolates from five different countries (China, France, Iran, Spain and the USA) in ...

The incidence and economic importance of watermelon mosaic virus

New Zealand Journal of Agricultural Research, 1971
Abstract In a field trial early infection with watermelon mosaic virus (WMV) was shown to cause yield reductions in Buttercup squash (63%), Golden Hubbard squash (53%), and pumpkin (49%), but not in cucumber. WMV also caused a reduction in the size of Buttercup squash.
