Duplex Stainless Steel Laser‐Surface Textured: Stability in Brine Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled laser‐surface treatment (LST) of duplex DSS2205 steel is performed to increase its stability in brine solution under cyclic electrochemical assays. The superior protection with respect to flat and smooth panels is attributed to the presence of FeCr2O4 as the main protective oxide layer in the LST surface, after corrosion tests. The stability

Hydraulic conductivity of a dense prehydrated geosynthetic clay liner [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Dense prehydrated geosynthetic clay liners (DPH-GCLs) are a particular type of GCL which, unlike conventional GCLs manufactured with dry bentonite, contain bentonite prehydrated during manufacturing.

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...

Handbook of Establishing and Maintaining Oxygen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a practical framework for creating oxygen‐free atmospheres at ambient pressure using silane‐doped inert gases. The results show that ultra‐low oxygen levels and strongly reduced water content can be achieved through controlled silane dosing, drying systems, and sensor monitoring.

Application of Mastic Asphalt Waterproofing Layer in High-Speed Railway Track in Cold Regions

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
Freeze-thaw damage is a typical distress incurred in road and railway engineering in cold regions. Concrete waterproofing layer is commonly used in high-speed railway tracks to prevent the penetration of surface water, however, it cracks easily under ...

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

The behaviour of a two-component backfilling grout used in a Tunnel-Boring Machine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The instantaneous filling of the annulus that is created behind the segment lining at the end of the tail during the TBM advance is an operation of paramount importance.
