Influence of hydrological pathways on dissolved organic carbon fluxes in tropical streams
Water flow pathways and water balance are fundamental components for understanding the dynamics of C in the soil/water interface of small basins. The objective of this study was to describe the seasonal variations and estimate the annual balance of ...

While Pacific salmon are economically and culturally important worldwide, Alaska, USA is one of the few remaining places on earth where sustainable management of salmon is possible, even in the face of wide-ranging threats, including overharvesting and ...

Time lags in watershed-scale nutrient transport: an exploration of dominant controls
Unprecedented decreases in atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition together with increases in agricultural N-use efficiency have led to decreases in net anthropogenic N inputs in many eastern US and Canadian watersheds as well as in Europe.

Environmental Impact Assessment of reservoir construction: new perspectives for restoration economy, and development: the Belo Monte Power Plant case study [PDF]
The Environmental Impact Assessment of reservoir construction can be viewed as a new strategic perspective for the economic development of a region. Based on the principles of a watershed approach a interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary systemic view ...

We study hierachical segmentation in the framework of edge-weighted graphs. We define ultrametric watersheds as topological watersheds null on the minima. We prove that there exists a bijection between the set of ultrametric watersheds and the set of hierarchical edge-segmentations.

Evaluation of Hierarchical Watersheds [PDF]
This paper aims to understand the practical features of hierarchies of morphological segmentations, namely the quasi-flat zones hierarchy and watershed hierarchies, and to evaluate their potential in the context of natural image analysis. We propose a novel evaluation framework for the hierarchies of partitions designed to capture various aspects of ...

Financialization at a watershed in the USA [PDF]
In the period following the Great Recession of 2007–2009 the financialization of the US economy reached a watershed characterized by stagnant financial profits, falling proportions of financial sector and mortgage debt, and rising proportion of public debt. The main macroeconomic indicators of financialization in the USA show structural breaks that can

A prediction model of soil organic carbon into river and its driving mechanism in red soil region
Soil erosion contributes to the irreversible loss of soil organic carbon (SOC) into rivers (SOCR), posing risks to food security and carbon cycle assessments.
