Wave-current interaction in Willapa Bay [PDF]
[1] This paper describes the importance of wave-current interaction in an inlet-estuary system. The three-dimensional, fully coupled, Coupled Ocean-Atmosphere-Wave-Sediment Transport (COAWST) modeling system was applied in Willapa Bay (Washington State) from 22 to 29 October 1998 that included a large storm event.

A simple model of wave–current interaction
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2015The interaction between a steady current and propagating surface waves is investigated by means of a perturbation approach, which assumes small values of the wave steepness and considers current velocities of the same order of magnitude as the amplitude of the velocity oscillations induced by wave propagation.

The wave-current interaction in the coastal area
Journal of Marine Research, 2019In our investigation of the effect of wind-waves on barotropic mean flow in coastal areas, we compare two methods for calculating wave-induced force. The wave field is simulated by the nearshore spectral wave model SWAN. The wave-induced force (calculated using the radiation stress gradient and dissipation methods) and the Stokes drift are integrated ...

Some observations of wave–current interaction
Coastal Engineering, 1999Abstract Using data collected during the SCAWVEX Project, the effect of depth and current changes (particularly tidal) on waves and the effect of waves on tidal currents were examined. The possible interaction mechanisms between waves, tides and surges are reviewed.

Observations of Surface Wave–Current Interaction
Journal of Physical Oceanography, 2017AbstractWave–current interaction can result in significant inhomogeneities of the ocean surface wave field, including modulation of the spectrum, wave breaking rates, and wave statistics. This study presents novel airborne observations from two experiments: 1) the High-Resolution Air–Sea Interaction (HiRes) experiment, with measurements across an ...

Wave–Current Interactions in Finite Depth
Journal of Physical Oceanography, 2006Abstract The energy, momentum, and mass-flux exchanges between surface waves and underlying Eulerian mean flows are considered, and terms in addition to the classical wave “radiation stress” are identified. The formulation is made in terms of the vertically integrated flow.

Investigation into wave—current interactions in marine current turbines
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Journal of Power and Energy, 2007The paper looks at the use of blade element-momentum theory for predicting the torque and thrust on a marine current turbine and the results of wave tank tests using a 400 mm-diameter rotor model. To include the effects of waves, linear wave theory particle velocities and accelerations were integrated into the mathematical model.
