Spatial Evolution of Wave‐Particle Interaction Region Deduced From Flash‐Type Auroras and Chorus‐Ray Tracing [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2021
In-situ observations of spatial variations of the wave-particle interaction region require a large number of satellite probes. As an alternative, flash-type auroras, a kind of pulsating aurora, driven by discrete chorus elements, can be used to ...

Wave-particle interaction

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 2000
We seek a description of plasma wave-particle interactions in the weakly collisional regime. Because weak collisions produce a qualitative change in the plasma degrees of freedom without totally suppressing kinetic effects, neither the Vlasov limit nor the fluid moment limit are found to be an adequate description of experimental data.

Wave-particle interaction at double resonance

Physical Review E, 2008
This paper is devoted to studying wave-particle interaction at "double resonance" condition, i.e., when two waves interact resonantly with the same group of charged particles. A theoretical Hamiltonian model and a symplectic numerical code are built to describe the three-dimensional interactions of wave spectra with resonant electrons in a magnetized ...

Convection and wave-particle interactions

Journal of Atmospheric and Terrestrial Physics, 1978
Abstract We study, by means of the adiabatic invariants and Liouville's theorem, the deformation of the distribution functions of substorm injected particles in the magnetosphere. Assuming a steady-state convection process, we can obtain simple analytical expressions for the particle flux, the anisotropy and the growth rate of electromagnetic ...
