Experimental Investigation of Wave Structure Interactions
GSTF Journal of Engineering Technology, 2013In the present work, physical models have been built to experimentally investigate the wave structure interactions. The paper is focusing on the effects of wave overtopping on wave reflection and wave forces at a seawall. The tests are implemented in the laboratory of the Coastal Engineering Research Center, the University of Queensland.

Nonlinear interactions in slow-wave structures
Nonlinear Guided Waves and Their Applications, 2002Nonlinear interactions in coupled resonator slow-wave structures are investigated. Kenbased phase modulation and wavelength conversion by four-wave-mixing result strongly enhanced thanks to both the increase of the intra-cavity mean power and the interaction time between propagating fields.

Wave–structure interaction: simulation driven by quantitative imaging
Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2004Summary: We present a new approach to simulating wave-structure interaction dynamics using proper orthogonal decomposition by directly employing eigenmodes extracted from particle image velocimetry experimental data. A low-dimensional Galerkin model is constructed incorporating up to 12 modes and time-dependent boundary conditions.

On the role of uncertainty for the study of wave–structure interaction
Coastal Engineering, 2015Abstract We present a methodology to quantify the breakwater failure by means of the partial coupling of a nonlinear wave transformation model and a structural dynamic model. Nonlinear wave transformation is simulated by a two-dimensional VOF-type model (Cornell Breaking Wave and Structures), which solves the Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS ...

Wave-Structure Interaction In Offshore Platforms
Offshore Technology Conference, 1969ABSTRACT The analysis of the complex interaction of wave forces and structural response is in its very early stages of development. Formulating the equation of motion for the structure under the action of wave forces involves the following uncertain parameters: [1] virtual water mass, which is a function of the ...

Slepian models for waves and wave-structure interaction
Engineering Structures, 1995A regressive form of Slepian modelling was used to develop predictive models for the key variables associated with three quite different experimental data sets. The first data set provided a time series record of the surface elevation for a moderate random seaway.

Bifurcations and Routes to Chaos in Wave-Structure Interaction Systems
Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics, 1992Summary: Wave-structure interaction systems are examined in this paper. These systems are characterized by a nonlinear restoring force and a coupled wave-structure drag and inertial exciting force. Stability analyses of system response define domains of primary and secondary resonances and reveal the existence of nonlinear solutions.

Wave-Structure Interaction of Focussed Waves With REEF3D
Volume 2: CFD and VIV, 2016For the stability of offshore structures, such as offshore wind foundations, extreme wave conditions need to be taken into account. Waves from extreme events can become critical from design perspective. In a numerical wave tank, extreme waves can be generated through focussed waves. Here, linear waves are generated from a wave spectrum. The wave crests

Expansion formulae in wave structure interaction problems
Proceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2005A large class of problems in the field of fluid–structure interaction involves higher-order boundary conditions for the governing partial differential equation and the eigenfunctions associated with these problems are not orthogonal in the usual sense.

Acousto-Optical Interactions in Guided Wave Structures
1974Acousto-optic interactions using coherent light and microwave acoustics in solids have been extensively studied (for review see R. Damon, 1970; Quate, 1965). Many practical acousto-optic devices for laser beam modulation (Maydan, 1970), deflection (Gordon, 1966), filtering (Harris, 1969) and signal processing (Collins, 1967) have been realized ...
