Interannual Wave Climate Variability and Its Role in the Shoreline Evolution of a Barrier Island in Southeastern Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Sandy shorelines respond to variability in boundary conditions over a wide range of time and spatial scales. While recent studies show that climate modes may affect shoreline evolution at interannual scales, such relationships remain unclear in the South

An improved hybrid model for shoreline change

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Predicting the nearshore sediment transport and shifts in coastlines in view of climate change is important for planning and management of coastal infrastructure and requires an accurate prediction of the regional wave climate as well as an in-depth ...

Influence of El Ninos on California’s Wave Climate

open access: yesCoastal Engineering 1984, 1984
Waves with exceptional height and periods caused severe damage along the coast of California in 1982-83. Because these large wave events coincided with a strong El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) climatic anomaly, which occurs 20-25 times per century, there was interest in determining if the extreme waves resulted from the ENSO or its related features.

Dynamics of Sandy Shorelines and Their Response to Wave Climate Change in the East of Hainan Island, China

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Beach erosion and shoreline dynamics are strongly affected by alterations in nearshore wave intensity and energy, especially in the context of global climate change.

Long-Term Analysis of Wave Climate and Shoreline Change along the Gulf of California

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The last ten years have shown that Climate Change (CC) is a major global issue to attend to. The integration of its effects into coastal impact assessments and adaptation plans has gained great attention and interest, focused on avoiding or minimizing ...

Wave Climate Variability and Longshore Sediment Transport Evaluation along Ramin Harbor, Southeast Coast of Iran

open access: yesInternational Journal of Coastal and Offshore Engineering, 2018
This paper examines the variation of wave characteristics and net Longshore Sediment Transport (LST) rates along the Ramin Harbor, southeast coast of Iran. Potential LST rates were determined based on three empirical relationships, namely, CERC, Kamphuis

Seasonal Variability of Wind Sea and Swell Waves Climate along the Canary Current: The Local Wind Effect

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2018
A climatology of wind sea and swell waves along the Canary eastern boundary current area, from west Iberia to Mauritania, is presented. The study is based on the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) reanalysis ERA-Interim.
