Measurements of overtopping flow time series on the Wave Dragon, wave energy converter

Renewable Energy, 2009
A study of overtopping flow series on the Wave Dragon prototype, a low crested device designed to maximise flow, in a real sea, is presented. This study aims to fill the gap in the literature on time series of flow overtopping low crested structures.

Medium-voltage power converter interface for Wave Dragon wave energy conversion system

2013 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition, 2013
This paper presents a medium-voltage power converter system for the Wave Dragon ocean energy conversion platform. The proposed converter configuration is an alternative to the classic back-to-back low voltage converter implemented in the original prototype. The converter configuration merges several diode rectifiers with boost converters operating with

Wave Dragon wave-wind project

Proceedings of the European Wave and Tidal Energy Conference
Wave Dragon wave-wind project Wave power is more consistent than wind-, solar- and tidal power. Wave is at the same time more predictable than wind and solar. The paper assesses the economic performance of the different wave energy converter (WEC) types and discusses the possibility for WECs to match the levelized cost of energy for offshore wind ...

Slow waves, sharp waves, ripples, and REM in sleeping dragons

Science, 2016
The dragon sleeps tonight Most animal species sleep, from invertebrates to primates. However, neuroscientists have until now only actively recorded the sleeping brains of birds and mammals. Shein-Idelson et al.

CFD study of the overtopping discharge of theWave Dragon wave energy converter

2015
The Wave Dragon is a floating Wave Energy Converter (WEC) working by the overtopping principle. The overtopping discharge has been determined by model scale experiments in wave basins. In the present study we numerically simulate the overtopping behavior of the Wave Dragon device using a VOFbased incompressible Euler/Navier-Stokes solver in the ...

Wave Dragon

2008
Since March 2003 a prototype of Wave Dragon has been tested in an inland sea in Denmark. This has been a great success with all subsystems tested and improved through working in an offshore environment. The project has proved the Wave Dragon device and has enabled the next stage, a production sized version.

Wave Overtopping Characteristics of the Wave Dragon

2006
Simulation work has been used extensively with the Wave dragon and other overtopping devices to analyse the power production performance of them and to optimise the structural design and the control strategy. A time domain approach to this is well documented in Jakobsen & Frigaard 1999.

Life cycle assessment of the wave energy converter: Wave Dragon [PDF]

open access: possible, 2007
Any power production technology should be able to demonstrate that it's able to comply with current and future environmental regulation and that it demonstrates a considerable surplus in the energy balance being a part of the entire power system. This means that the energy used throughout all the lifecycle stages; from provision of materials over ...
