Viscoelasticity‐driven instabilities are harnessed to create tunable, periodic textures in 3D‐printed liquid crystalline polymers. This study illustrates how processing parameters control these spontaneous meso‐scale patterns. These unique structural architectures unlock new possibilities for functional devices, ranging from photonic components to ...

Abstract Ocean waves may potentially contribute one TW to global energy supply. The time variablity of wave energy can be smoothed by integration with the general energy supply system. Many different wave power plants, some of them multi-purpose, have been proposed, assessed, and cost estimated.

RAYLEIGH1 was not quite satisfied in having to obtain his equation for speed of wave energy by indirect means, from consideration of 'interference groups'and 'variation in wave-length', and he searched for an alternative method; but the one he devised was also indirect, so that his result still rested on mathematical hypothesis, and was devoid of any ...

A detailed review of the works carried out in connection with wave energy extraction devices are presented in this chapter. Although, there are a few methods of extracting the energy from waves, the emphasis is laid on Oscillating water column (OWC) devices due to its’ more attractive, simple, and proven technology.

A brief history of the concept of negative energy waves in fluid and plasma media is given. The theory of microwave tubes is highlighted, where the small signal power theorem was first derived, which led to the interpretation of these devices in terms of the interaction of positive and negative energy waves.

Who can contemplate the surface of the ocean and not notice its incessant, seemingly random motion? This motion represents the net effect of long swells bearing memories of distant storms, shorter waves driven up by winds blowing nearby and over the surrounding area, and very small ripples caused by surface tension, with the pattern constantly changing
