The Wave Pump: Conversion of Wave Energy to Current Energy

Journal of the Waterway, Port, Coastal and Ocean Division, 1977
The Wave Pump converts wave energy to current energy utilizing the momentum of waves which are close to or at the breaking stage. To improve the efficiency of the Pump so that even smaller waves become effective, waves are concentrated in a funnel. Funnel geometry therefore is an important parameter. So is the wave height over depth ratio.

Speed of Wave Energy

Nature, 1949
RAYLEIGH1 was not quite satisfied in having to obtain his equation for speed of wave energy by indirect means, from consideration of 'interference groups'and 'variation in wave-length', and he searched for an alternative method; but the one he devised was also indirect, so that his result still rested on mathematical hypothesis, and was devoid of any ...

Momentum and Energy of Waves

Journal of Applied Physics, 1961
Elementary arguments of conservation of energy and momentum are used to derive expressions for what Sturrock terms the ``formal'' momentum, angular momentum, and energy of a plane wave in a moving medium. If E is the energy per unit length, p the momentum per unit length, q the angular momentum per unit length, vf the phase velocity, and if the angular

Wave Energy

The exercise proposed in section 8.2 studies the recovery of wave energy using a flap that oscillates under the action of gravity waves. The waves apply a torque to the flap and cause it to perform a sinusoidal rotational movement around an axis. Controlling the oscillation movement of the flap by a PTO (Power Take Off) system makes it possible to ...

Wave Energy Converter: A Review of Wave Energy Conversion Technology

2016 3rd Asia-Pacific World Congress on Computer Science and Engineering (APWC on CSE), 2016
The Ocean has a vast amount of energy that could be harnessed and is being pinned as a promising resource. This paper highlights the development of wave energy converter technology since the late 1960s. Main topics discussed are: the characterization of various wave energy converter technologies, conceptual and practical working principle of various ...
