Optimal control of a wave energy converter
2017 IEEE Conference on Control Technology and Applications (CCTA), 2017The optimal control strategy for a wave energy converter (WEC) with constraints on the control torque is investigated. The goal is to optimize the total energy delivered to the electricity grid. Using Pontryagin's maximum principle, the solution is found to be singular-bang.

Modelling and Control of a Wave Energy Converter
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2010Abstract This work addresses an off-shore oscillating water column for producing electricity from sea waves. It describes the modelling of this device and the study of control techniques that could improve energy extraction. Optimisation techniques applied improved the device performance for a wide number of sea states.

Model predictive control of a wave energy converter
2015 IEEE Conference on Control Applications (CCA), 2015In this paper reactive control and Model Predictive Control (MPC) for a Wave Energy Converter (WEC) are compared. The analysis is based on a WEC from Wave Star A/S designed as a point absorber. The model predictive controller uses wave models based on the dominating sea states combined with a model connecting undisturbed wave sequences to sequences of ...

Wave power presents as the movements of water particles close to the ocean surface. The energy intensity depends on the height and frequency of waves. A large amount of wave power in random sea motivates us to think of using ocean wave energy for generating electricity.
