WAVE complex regulation by force

Nature Cell Biology, 2021
The WAVE regulatory complex is well known as an orchestrator of actin dynamics at the leading edge of migrating cells. A recent study shows how mechanical effects can regulate the WAVE complex and explains the importance of forces generated by actin filaments to control new actin generation at the leading edge.

Augmented-plane-wave forces

Physical Review B, 1990
On demontre l'exactitude d'une methode de calcul d'une theorie de structure electronique. La methode combine le pouvoir et la flexibilite de l'onde plane amelioree avec la methode de Car-Parrinello de dynamique moleculaire et de minimisation de l'energie totale.

External forcing of spiral waves

Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 1994
The effect of an external rhythm on rotating spiral waves in excitable media is investigated. Parameters of the unperturbed medium were chosen, such that the organizing spiral tip describes meandering (hypocyclic) trajectories, which are the most general shape for the experimentally observed systems.

Identification Of Nonlinear Wave Forces

Journal of Fluids and Structures, 1994
Abstract This paper is concerned with the time and frequency-domain analysis of nonlinear wave force data. In the first half of the paper, the time-domain NARMAX modelling technique is applied to a number of fluid loading data sets in order to establish if there exists a simple extension of Morison's equation which will predict forces with improved ...

Wave forces on hemicylinders

Ocean Engineering, 1989
Abstract Potential solutions describing the flow about two-dimensional marine structures on or near the ocean bottom are formulated, based on Airy's wave model. The solutions for a half-cylinder and semicircular shell are considered in detail and evaluated in the case of deep submergence. The formulation with and without flow underneath the structure

Forced Trench Waves

Journal of Physical Oceanography, 1981
Abstract A general theory for forced barotropic long trench waves in the presence of linear bottom friction is presented. Two specific forcing mechanisms are considered: (i) transverse fluctuations in a western boundary current as it flows across a trench, and (ii) a traveling wind system that moves parallel to the trench.

Wave forces on a circular dock

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1971
The scattering of surface gravity waves by a circular dock is considered in order to determine the horizontal and vertical forces and torque on the dock. An incident plane wave is expanded in Bessel functions, and for each mode the problem is formulated in terms of the potential on the cylindrical surface containing the dock and extending to the bottom.
