Optical Slow Wave Structures

Optics and Photonics News, 2003
Nonlinear processes are enhanced in slow wave structures that consist of a cascade of directly coupled optical resonators. Although slow wave propagation has not yet been deployed at optical frequencies, new research could make slow wave structures the cornerstone of switches and other wideband devices for all-optical processing.

Gravitational lensing of waves: Novel methods for wave-optics phenomena

Physical Review D
Wave-optics phenomena in gravitational lensing occur when the signal’s wavelength is commensurate to the gravitational radius of the lens. Although potentially detectable in lensed gravitational waves, fast radio bursts and pulsars, accurate numerical ...

Non-line-of-sight imaging using phasor-field virtual wave optics

Nature, 2018
Non-line-of-sight imaging allows objects to be observed when partially or fully occluded from direct view, by analysing indirect diffuse reflections off a secondary relay surface.

Coupled-Mode Theory for Guided-Wave Optics

IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1973
The problem of propagation and interaction of optical radiation in dielectric waveguides is cast in the coupled-mode formalism. This approach is useful for treating problems involving energy exchange between modes.

Dissipative optical Bloch waves

Optics Letters, 2009
We show that nonlinear optical cavities under periodic modulations can exhibit dissipative Bloch waves. This can be achieved by a proper choice of the incident field in the cavity that must both compensate for losses and match with the modulation period. Dissipative Bloch waves, unlike their conservative counterparts, spontaneously emerge in the cavity

Optical wave phase fluctuations

Applied Optics, 1981
This paper presents a series of studies on the effect of low-frequency fluctuations of the atmospheric refractive index on phase fluctuations of space-limited optical beams. Theoretical calculations have been made in the approximation of a smooth perturbation method.

Optical glass wave plates

Applied Optics, 1982
Permanent birefringence in excess of 300 nm/cm can be thermomechanically induced in the borosilicate optical glass ARG-2, making it an attractive alternative to natural crystalline quartz and mica for large-aperture wave-plate requirements in laser systems investigating inertial confinement fusion.
