New insights in the probability distributions of wave-by-wave overtopping volumes at vertical breakwaters [PDF]
Advances in the development of prediction tools for wave overtopping allow now for overtopping volumes to be estimated with good accuracy, with the combined use of mean overtopping rates and maximum wave by wave overtopping volumes in a sequence of wave ...

Predicting wave overtopping thresholds on coral reef-island shorelines with future sea-level rise [PDF]
Sea-level rise will exacerbate wave overtopping on low-lying coral reef islands. Here the authors present a novel method that quantifies wave overtopping thresholds and associated reef-island vulnerability trajectories based on differences in local wave ...

Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics Simulation of Wave Overtopping Characteristics for Different Coastal Structures [PDF]
This research paper presents an incompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics (ISPH) technique to investigate a regular wave overtopping on the coastal structure of different types.

Overtopping wave energy converters (OWECs) are designed to capture the energy from wave overtopping and transform it into clean and renewable electricity. The present paper numerically investigates irregular wave overtopping on a simplified 2-dimensional

Traditional concrete revetments can destroy the ecological environment and the water landscape. An increasing number of ecological revetment structures have been applied in coastal, lake, and river regulation projects.

Wave Overtopping of Stepped Revetments [PDF]
Wave overtopping—i.e., excess of water over the crest of a coastal protection infrastructure due to wave run-up—of a smooth slope can be reduced by introducing slope roughness. A stepped revetment ideally constitutes a slope with uniform roughness and can reduce overtopping volumes of breaking waves up to 60% compared to a smooth slope.

THE WAVE OVERTOPPING SIMULATOR [PDF]
The wave overtopping simulator is a device which will be able to simulate overtopping waves at the crest and at the inner slope of a dike, levee or embankment in situ. The idea is that real waves are not required to simulate only the overtopping part of waves and that enough information on overtopping waves has been developed by years of research, to ...

Experimental Investigation of Wave Propagation and Overtopping over Seawalls on a Reef Flat
A series of physical model tests were performed to investigate the wave propagation, pressure, and wave overtopping processes for vertical and sloped seawalls on the reef flat.

Remote Sensing of Wave Overtopping on Dynamic Coastal Structures
The development of coastal regions combined with rising sea levels is leading to an increasing risk of coastal flooding caused by wave overtopping of natural beaches and engineered coastal structures.
