ABSTRACT Shelf‐edge deltas are commonly interpreted to record basinward facies migration across uninterrupted, gently dipping shelf margins; however, examples from mixed siliciclastic‐carbonate margins reveal more complex depositional dynamics. Periods and areas of carbonate sedimentation within mixed siliciclastic‐carbonate margins can modify shelf ...

Influence of directional spreading on wave overtopping of sea dikes with gentle and shallow foreshores [PDF]
The work highlights the importance of directional spreading effects on wave overtopping estimation in shallow and mild sloping foreshores. Wave short-crestedness leads, in general, to a reduction of mean overtopping discharges on coastal structures.

Abstract figure legend Schematic illustration of microneurography recordings used to examine the effects of local skin heating on cutaneous mechanoreceptor responses in the human foot (left panel). A microelectrode inserted into a peripheral nerve records single‐unit activity from tactile afferent fibres while controlled mechanical stimuli are applied ...

Waves progressing into the coastal area can be amplified, swashed and overtopped by a wave overtopping control structure, and it converts the kinetic energy of the waves to the potential energy with a hydraulic head above the mean sea level by conserving the overflow in a reservoir.

Coupled Dynamics Between Networks and Fields in Physical Space: A Theoretical Perspective
Networks embedded in physical space often communicate through dynamical fields that both mediate and respond to collective behavior. A unified theoretical perspective is presented for these network‐field systems, linking established mathematical frameworks and revealing how feedback between discrete interactions and continuous spatial processes can ...

Strength of the grass sod on dikes during wave overtopping [PDF]
This thesis focuses on the erosion of the grass sod during overtopping wave volumes. Several tests have been performed in the last few years with the wave overtopping simulator.

Overtopping flow velocity (OFV) and overtopping layer thickness (OTL) are essential parameters in breakwater design. Several empirical equations to predict these parameters are available in many works of literature, but most of the equations were derived

The 2025 Kamchatka Earthquake and Tsunami: Cascading Impacts and Risks to Japan
ABSTRACT On July 29th, 2025, a large earthquake (Mw 8.8) occurred near the Kamchatka Peninsula. This event caused a tsunami that reached Japan's Pacific coast, even though the source was far away. In this study, we analyze the characteristics of earthquakes and tsunamis and discuss how they relate to the recurrence possibility and risk in Japan.
