Development of Wave Overtopping–Overflow Transition Model Based on Full-scale Experiments

open access: yes한국해양공학회지, 2020
When high waves and storm surge strike simultaneously, the characteristics of the fluid field change drastically from overtopping according to the wave runup height to overflow through a transition state that combines overtopping and overflows.

Laboratory study of the combined wave and surge overtopping-induced normal stress on dike

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2023
Normal stress on dikes is one of the most critical parameters for a sound dike design. With more rapidly rising sea levels due to global warming, dikes are seriously threatened by overtopping induced by the combination of wave and storm surge.

Wave overtopping at dykes with topped vertical wall - Impacts of oblique wave attack [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Hydraulic model tests at a scale of 1:10 are carried out in a 40 m x 25 m wave basin with a state-of-the-art 3D wave generator in order to collect wave overtopping data at vertical walls and dykes with topped vertical walls.

Wave Transmission by Overtopping

open access: yesJournal of the Waterways, Harbors and Coastal Engineering Division, 1972
This report presents a semi-empirical theory for ocean wave transmission past breakwaters by overtopping, based on an evaluation of the energy content of the overtopping water. While several coefficients are subject to further investigation, the data show that the general form of the equations developed is correct.

Influence of convex and concave curvatures in a coastal dike line on wave run-up [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Due to climatic change and the increased usage of coastal areas, there is an increasing risk of dike failures along the coasts worldwide. Wave run-up plays a key role in the planning and design of a coastal structure.

Role of Beach Morphology in Wave Overtopping Hazard Assessment

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2017
Understanding the role of beach morphology in controlling wave overtopping volume will further minimise uncertainties in flood risk assessments at coastal locations defended by engineered structures worldwide.

Effect of Variations in Water Level and Wave Steepness on the Robustness of Wave Overtopping Estimation

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
The wave overtopping discharge at coastal defense structures is directly linked to the freeboard height. By means of physical modelling, experiments on wave overtopping volumes at sloped coastal structures are customarily determined for constant water ...

Overtopping Metrics and Coastal Safety: A Case of Study from the Catalan Coast

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
Design criteria for coastal defenses exposed to wave overtopping are usually assessed by mean overtopping discharges and maximum individual overtopping volumes.

A review of potential physical impacts on harbours in the Mediterranean Sea under climate change [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The final publication is available at Springer via http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s10113-016-0972-9The potential impact of climate change on port operations and infrastructures has received much less attention than the corresponding impact for beach systems ...

An innovative approach for energy generation from waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Sustainable energy generation is becoming increasingly important due to the expected limitations in current energy resources and to reduce pollution. Wave energy generation has seen significant development in recent years.
