Overtopping Metrics and Coastal Safety: A Case of Study from the Catalan Coast

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
Design criteria for coastal defenses exposed to wave overtopping are usually assessed by mean overtopping discharges and maximum individual overtopping volumes.

Effect of Variations in Water Level and Wave Steepness on the Robustness of Wave Overtopping Estimation

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
The wave overtopping discharge at coastal defense structures is directly linked to the freeboard height. By means of physical modelling, experiments on wave overtopping volumes at sloped coastal structures are customarily determined for constant water ...

Expected Discharge of Irregular Wave Overtopping

open access: yesCoastal Engineering 1968, 1968
An experiment was carried out on the overtopping of mechanically generated irregular waves over vertical walls. The experimental discharge was almost in agreement with the expected discharge which had been calculated with the wave height histogram and the data of regular wave overtopping based on the principle of linear summation.

Wave Overtopping on Rubble Mound Breakwaters

open access: yesCoastal Engineering 1988, 1988
The paper gives the results of an extensive series of hydraulic model tests carried out in a random wave flume, in order to study the effects on wave overtopping of the main geometric parameters of a typical rubble mound breakwater with crown wall.

Estimation of Wave overtopping on Reshaping Breakwaters [PDF]

open access: yesمحیط زیست و مهندسی آب, 2016
The breakwater as structures that have an important role in the protection of coastal facilities was used to create calm in the harbor, reduce wave energy and also protect the coast against wave attack.

Irregular Wave Overtopping Rates

open access: yesCoastal Engineering 1984, 1984
Methods for estimating wave overtopping of coastal structures are reviewed and compared with the very limited available data and with each other. The different methods yield results which can vary more than an order-of-magnitude. For vertical seawalls, the U. S.

Spatial and Temporal Variation in Wave Overtopping Across a Coastal Structure Based on One Year of Field Observations

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Coastal managers worldwide must prepare for changes in annual wave overtopping events due to climate change and sea-level rise. Research often assesses overtopping discharges by extreme events at a sea wall crest, typically using data from physical ...

Single Slope Shore Protection as a Wave Energy Catcher

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Wave energy is being increasingly regarded in many countries as a major, promising and renewable resource. This paper presents the development of slope coastal protection as a wave energy converter by capturing sea water into the reservoir through ...

Study of Overtopping Flow Velocity and Overtopping Layer Thickness on Composite Breakwater under Regular Wave

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
Overtopping flow velocity (OFV) and overtopping layer thickness (OTL) are essential parameters in breakwater design. Several empirical equations to predict these parameters are available in many works of literature, but most of the equations were derived

Irregular Wave Overtopping of Seawalls [PDF]

open access: yesOCEANS '86, 1986
This paper discusses recent laboratory tests of irregular wave overtopping of coastal structures being conducted at the Coastal Engineering Research Center (CERC). Current model tests of seawalls has led to an improved method for predicting wave overtopping rates.
