In the context of “green” approaches to coastal engineering, the term “eco-engineering” has emerged in recent years to describe the incorporation of ecological concepts (including artificially water-filled depressions and surface textured tiles on ...

Abstract Beach stratigraphy at North Beach, Sandy Hook, New Jersey is used to calibrate a model of coastal erosion, establish a model‐based erosion threshold, and evaluate how often threshold conditions have been exceeded since 1979 through hindcast analysis.

Expected Discharge of Irregular Wave Overtopping
An experiment was carried out on the overtopping of mechanically generated irregular waves over vertical walls. The experimental discharge was almost in agreement with the expected discharge which had been calculated with the wave height histogram and the data of regular wave overtopping based on the principle of linear summation.

Abstract Lateral erosion of salt marshes via cliff retreat is a primary cause of global marsh loss, driven by interactions between hydrodynamics, sediment, and vegetation. While previous studies show a linear relationship between wave power and cliff retreat, models based on this relationship are largely unvalidated for short‐term (sub‐yearly) and ...

Numerical Investigation of Wave Overtopping in Impermeable Seawalls Coated with Sand-Based Porous Media [PDF]
A seawall's structural integrity can be damaged by wave overtopping. To mitigate wave overtopping, this study investigates the effectiveness of incorporating a porous layer into impermeable seawalls.

Extreme Heat and Rainfall Risk Attributed to Cumulative CO2 Emissions From Fossil Fuel Producers
Abstract Legal and political approaches to climate accountability require demonstrating that a particular emitter contributed to a climate impact, but quantitative solutions to this attribution challenge remain nascent. This study leverages the proportionality of global warming to cumulative CO2 emissions to develop statistical models that directly ...

Reduction of Wave Overtopping and Force Impact at Harbor Quays Due to Very Oblique Waves
Physical model experiments were conducted in a wave tank at Flanders Hydraulics Research, Antwerp, Belgium, to characterize the wave overtopping and impact force on vertical quay walls and sloping sea dike (1:2.5) under very oblique wave attack (angle ...

Abstract Fjords are globally significant sedimentary archives that record the relationship between glacial, tectonic, and marine processes. Fiordland, on the southwest coast of New Zealand, hosts one of the most extensive temperate fjord provinces in the Southern Hemisphere, yet its postglacial evolution has remained poorly constrained.

ABSTRACT Irrigation companies are important water actors in the state of Utah where over 80% of water is used for agriculture and the drying of the Great Salt Lake is a growing concern. These companies are the on‐the‐ground water managers that deliver water to shareholders.
