On Parameter Estimates of the Lossy Wave Equation
IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2008The Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) and maximum-likelihood estimates in Gaussian noise for the parameters of a sampled signal that satisfies the lossy wave equation (such as the voltage sampled along a transmission line) are derived. Results for both equally and unequally spaced samples are given.

Separated estimation of wave parameters and spectral parameters by maximum likelihood
ICASSP '86. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2005Parametric array processing methods are investigated. A conventional model of the sensor outputs is used: delayed signals are disturbed by sensor noise. Normal distributions of Fourier-transformed array outputs are applied for both, conditional and unconditional maximum likelihood estimates of the wave parameters, e.g. bearings and ranges, the spectral

Wave parameters in the nearshore: A clarification
Coastal Engineering, 1997In this paper, the conventional techniques used to analyze free surface fluctuations induced by wave disturbance will be supplemented by two algorithms which are particular to the nearshore. The first consists in eliminating long waves, most of which are free, from the raw signal.

Discussion on the parameters of design waves
Journal of Marine Science and Application, 2008In order to respond the discredit on the design wave standard and to recommend new consideration on design wave parameters, based on the long-term distribution of statistic characteristics of waves and the short-term probability properties of sea state defined by giving the return period, the calculation of the return period, the height, the period ...

Love Waves and the Parameters of the Source
1967In this chapter we investigate the possibility of determining, by observations on Love waves, the following source parameters: the depth of focus (principally within the boundaries of the crust) — according to the spectra of these waves; the magnitude — according to the amplitudes at various epicentral distances; and the mechanism — according to the ...

Note on wave parameters from moored wave buoys
Applied Ocean Research, 2007Abstract For decades, the accelerometer wave buoy has been a preferred choice for offshore wave measurements. Although these measurements are accurate and robust, there are some issues of practical character that need to be inspected before using such measurements for detailed time-series investigations.

Wave momentum flux parameter: a descriptor for nearshore waves
Coastal Engineering, 2004Abstract A new parameter representing the maximum depth-integrated wave momentum flux occurring over a wave length is proposed for characterizing the wave contribution to nearshore coastal processes on beaches and at coastal structures. This parameter has units of force per unit crest width, and it characterizes flow kinematics in nonbreaking waves ...

How to Determine Wave Parameters
1999In Chap. 3 various types of surface waves were described. Each of them possess their own properties, and different techniques should be used for prediction of these properties. However, some characteristics of all waves are common and can be used to distinguish between various wave types. The most important characteristics are relative wavelength (L/h),
