Wave power statistics for individual waves
Applied Ocean Research, 2009Abstract The paper provides a bivariate distribution of wave power and wave height, as well as a bivariate distribution of wave power and wave period; both bivariate distributions are for individual waves within a sea state. This is relevant for e.g. making assessments of wave power devices and their potential for converting energy from waves.

Power Handling Of Magnetostatic Wave Resonators
1997 IEEE International Magnetics Conference (INTERMAG'97), 1997In this paper, an experiment is presented to study a possible power handling enhancement of magnetostatic forward volume wave straight edge resonators. Theoretically, the power range for a linear response of the resonator is expected to be increased by inclining the sample with respect to the dc magnetic bias field direction, and a critical angle can ...

Power Waves and Conjugate Matching
IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II: Express Briefs, 2008The concept of power waves gives more natural relations between incident and reflected power in a microwave network than the typically used traveling waves. The reflection coefficient for power waves directly describes the reflection of power whereas the reflection coefficient of traveling waves describes the reflection of the waves themselves. In this

Applied Energy, 1977
Abstract The wave energy arriving on the west coast of the United Kingdom represents a very substantial energy resource, amounting on average to more than twice the present installed capacity of the Central Electricity Generating Board. Recent comprehensive studies by the CEGB 1,2 and the National Engineering Laboratory 3 suggest that although ...

Wave Climate and the Wave Power Resource
1986Wave climate statistics are reviewed from the wave power engineer’s point of view. It is emphasised that there is no fixed answer to the question “What do we need to know about the wave power resource ?” but rather a feedback loop between our knowledge and the development of any particular type of wave power device.

The oceans contain a vast amount of mechanical energy in form of ocean waves and tides. The high density of oscillating water results in high energy densities, making it a favorable form of hydro power. The total U.S. available incident wave energy flux is about 2,300 TWh/yr.
