Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

3D simulation of stress wave propagation in jointed rock mass with filling joint

open access: yesShuili Shuiyun Gongcheng Xuebao, 2020
In order to study the propagation characteristics of stress wave in rock mass with filling joints, the Three- Dimension Distinct Element Code was used to explore the influence of different occurrence joints on the penetration and reflection rules of P ...

Precipitation Simulations of the O‐Phase in Ti2AlNb Alloys Processed by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Simulated and experimental evolution of the O‐phase volume fraction during postprocessing of a Ti‐21Al‐25Nb (at.%) alloy processed by laser powder bed fusion. With results of sensitivity to input parameters from a thorough and quantified analysis, the interfacial energy matrix/precipitate is the most relevant input parameter for the simulation of the O‐

Design of Portable Reefs to Protect Young Mangroves

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
For a successful mangrove plantation, previous studies have proposed a small rubble mound breakwater, termed a “portable reef”, and explored the effectiveness of such reefs in terms of wave transmission.

Symmetries in the reflection and transmission of elastic waves [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 1978
Summary. The symmetry relations between the reflection and transmission coefficients for plane elastic waves incident upon an arbitrary horizontally stratified medium are derived by a novel approach. Previous results, particularly for a single interface, are obtained as special cases of this treatment.

On the Effect of Creep on Local Lattice Orientation in Single‐Crystal Ni‐Based Superalloy Microstructures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
During creep of a single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloy, the overall crystal orientation is observed to remain constant while the microstructure evolves. Despite the lack of macroscopic rotation, small (<1°) rotations are observed on the submicron size scale and are accommodated by counteracting rotations over the scale of several micrometers.

Wave Transmission by Rectangular Submerged Breakwaters

open access: yesComputation, 2020
In this paper, we investigate the wave damping mechanism caused by the presence of submerged bars using the Shallow Water Equations (SWEs). We first solve these equations for the single bar case using separation of variables to obtain the analytical ...

Uniform Amorphization of Crystalline Silicon Surfaces Enabled by Deep Ultraviolet Femtosecond Laser Pulses

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Deep‐UV (258 nm) femtosecond pulses enable uniform amorphous silicon writing on Si(100)/(111) with a six‐fold larger fluence amorphization window than NIR methods. Optimized fluence and overlap yield 20–45 nm uniform and continuous amorphous layers. Microscopy shows sharp interfaces, and real‐time reflectivity reveals nanosecond melt–resolidification ...
