A Two-Stage Approach for Decomposition of ICESat Waveforms
IGARSS 2008 - 2008 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2008Decomposing a waveform into distinct components by fitting a mixture of Gaussians impacts the ultimate interpretation of the return waveform, because the resulting parameter estimates of the Gaussian mixture directly affect the understanding of vertical structure within laser footprints. Decomposing the waveform into a mixture of Gaussians involves two

Decomposition of M-ary CPM signals into PAM waveforms
IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1995It has been shown that a general \(M\)-ary CPM (continuous phase-modulated) signal can be decomposed into the sum of PAM (pulse amplitude modulation) components. This result generalizes a previous statement which was limited to binary signaling. A general method has been described to compute Laurent functions and pseudo-symbols associated with each PAM

The parametric models used in Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) waveform decomposition routines are inherently estimates of the sensor's system response to backscattered laser pulse power. This estimation can be improved with an empirical system response model, yielding reduced waveform decomposition residuals and more precise echo ranging.

Exponential decomposition for waveform LiDAR processing
AOPC 2019: Optical Sensing and Imaging Technology, 2019LiDAR (light detection and ranging) has recently been recognized as one of the most promising remote sensing techniques due to its excellent performance in the detection of forest inventory, topographic mapping, and automatic driving. Compared to discrete return systems that can provide only range information with a limited number of backscatter ...

Gaussian Decomposition of LiDAR Waveform Data Simulated by Dart
IGARSS 2018 - 2018 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2018Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) techniques have been extensively applied in spaceborne, airborne and ground-based platforms. Understanding LiDAR data requires modeling approaches that can precisely account for the physical interactions between the emitted laser pulse and reflecting targets.

Waveform decomposition using the Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm is a powerful tool for detecting surface return, bottom return, and volume backscatter return in a superposed green waveform of airborne LiDAR bathymetry (ALB). However, traditional decomposition methods do not handle bound constraints and are easily trapped in local optimum.

Decomposition in noise and periodic signal waveforms in waveform interpolation
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1997A method of coding a speech signal is described. In accordance with the method, a plurality of sets of indexed parameters are generated based on samples of the speech signal. Each set of indexed parameters corresponds to a waveform characterizing the speech signal at a discrete point in time.

Advanced Waveform Decomposition for High-Speed Videoendoscopy Analysis
Journal of Voice, 2013This article presents a novel approach to analyze nonperiodic vocal fold behavior of high-speed videoendoscopy (HSV) data. Although HSV can capture true vibrational motions of the vocal folds, its clinical advantage over the videostroboscopy has not widely been accepted.

Minimum description length constrained LiDAR waveform decomposition
2014 IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2014Waveform decomposition is a necessary step for the exploitation of full waveform LiDAR data. Much effort has been focused on designing algorithms to decompose the waveform into a fixed number of components. However, the determination of the appropriate number of components in a waveform, though crucial, is rarely studied. This paper introduces an order
