Optimal sequential waveform design for cognitive radar
2012 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2012This paper addresses the problem of adaptive sequential waveform design for system parameter estimation. This problem arises in several applications such as radar, sonar, or tomography. In the proposed technique, the transmit/input signal waveform is optimally determined at each step, based on the measurements in the previous steps.

Waveform optimization for internal cardioversion of atrial fibrillation
Journal of Electrocardiology, 2011A novel atrial defibrillator was developed at the Royal Victoria Hospital in collaboration with the Nanotechnology and Integrated Bio-Engineering Centre, University of Ulster. This device is powered by an external pulse of radiofrequency energy and designed to cardiovert using low-tilt monophasic waveform (LTMW) and low-tilt biphasic waveform (LTBW ...

Optimal Waveform Morphology for Defibrillation
1992Since the first human implant of a completely implantable cardiac defibrillator in 1980, research has focused on making the smallest, most efficient device. Currently the main size constraints of these devices are the battery and capacitor sizes [1]. If energy requirements for defibrillation could be reduced without affecting the efficacy of the device,

Toward an Optimal Algorithm for LiDAR Waveform Decomposition
IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, 2012This letter introduces a new approach for light detection and ranging (LiDAR) waveform decomposition. First, inflection points are identified by the Ramer-Douglas-Peucker curve-fitting algorithm, and each inflection point has a corresponding baseline during curve fitting. Second, according to the spatial relation between the baseline and the inflection

Channel-optimized soft trellis waveform coding
IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2002We provide a new fuzzy relaxation trellis codebook search algorithm over noisy channels. The new algorithm solves the problems associated with the LBG algorithm in the sense of delivering relatively lower distortion configurations using short training sequences. Furthermore, the new approach is significantly less sensitive to the initialization process.

Radar Waveform Sidelobe Level Optimality and Sampling
IEEE Signal Processing Letters, 2016Radar waveforms are often optimized to achieve minimal sidelobes in the ambiguity function. We show that sampling rate can affect the optimality of the sidelobe level, so the sampling rate should be considered already at the optimization phase. We develop a theorem showing that for narrowband waveforms with amplitude and phase coding, the peaks of the ...

MRI gradient waveform design by numerical optimization
Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, 1993AbstractThis manuscript describes a method of gradient waveform design by nonlinear constrained optimization. Methods of formulation and solution of the waveform optimization problem are briefly described for minimization of root mean squared current and minimization of waveform moments.

Optimal waveform selection in range-Doppler imaging
Proceedings of 1st International Conference on Image Processing, 2002Solves the problem of adaptively selecting a set of N radar waveforms to obtain the optimal L/sub 2/ estimate of a target range-Doppler reflectivity function. The authors assume that the targets correspond to one of two classes. They show that the waveform selection strategy involves an initial class identification phase followed by a pure imaging ...

Waveform Design and Optimization in Radar Sensor Network
2010 IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference GLOBECOM 2010, 2010We investigate the use of information theory to design waveforms for the measurement of extended radar targets in radar sensor networks (RSN). The different channel gains for transmitting signals from different radar sensors are introduced to model the radar system channel.
